وَيَقُولُونَ طَاعَةٌ فَإِذَا بَرَزُواْ مِنْ عِندِكَ بَيَّتَ طَآئِفَةٌ مِّنْهُمْ غَيْرَ الَّذِي تَقُولُ وَاللّهُ يَكْتُبُ مَا يُبَيِّتُونَ فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللّهِ وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ وَكِيلاً
English Meaning
They say, “We obey.” But when they leave you, some of them secretly plan something different from what you have instructed. Allah records what they plan. So turn away from them and place your trust in Allah; Allah is sufficient as a Guardian.
Urdu Meaning
وہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم اطاعت کرتے ہیں، لیکن جب آپ کے پاس سے نکلتے ہیں تو ان میں سے ایک گروہ رات کو اس کے خلاف منصوبے بناتا ہے جو آپ نے فرمایا ہوتا ہے۔ اللہ ان کے خفیہ منصوبوں کو لکھ رہا ہے۔ پس ان سے درگزر کریں اور اللہ پر بھروسہ کریں، اور اللہ ہی کافی کارساز ہے۔
Explanation
This verse exposes the difference between outward obedience and hidden disobedience. Allah knows what people conceal, even when their words appear sincere.
أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ الْقُرْآنَ وَلَوْ كَانَ مِنْ عِندِ غَيْرِ اللّهِ لَوَجَدُواْ فِيهِ اخْتِلاَفًا كَثِيراً
English Meaning
Do they not deeply reflect upon the Qur’an? If it had come from anyone other than Allah, they would have found many contradictions within it.
Urdu Meaning
کیا یہ لوگ قرآن میں غور و فکر نہیں کرتے؟ اگر یہ اللہ کے سوا کسی اور کی طرف سے ہوتا تو اس میں بہت سے اختلافات پاتے۔
Explanation
Allah encourages people to thoughtfully examine the Qur’an rather than approaching it carelessly. Its consistent message and guidance are signs of its divine origin.
وَإِذَا جَاءهُمْ أَمْرٌ مِّنَ الأَمْنِ أَوِ الْخَوْفِ أَذَاعُواْ بِهِ وَلَوْ رَدُّوهُ إِلَى الرَّسُولِ وَإِلَى أُوْلِي الأَمْرِ مِنْهُمْ لَعَلِمَهُ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَنبِطُونَهُ مِنْهُمْ وَلَوْلاَ فَضْلُ اللّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ لاَتَّبَعْتُمُ الشَّيْطَانَ إِلاَّ قَلِيلاً
English Meaning
When information about security or danger reaches them, they immediately spread it. If they had referred it to the Messenger and those responsible for authority among them, those capable of understanding its implications would have dealt with it properly. Without Allah’s favor and mercy, most of you would have followed Satan.

اور جب ان کے پاس امن یا خوف سے متعلق کوئی خبر آتی ہے تو وہ اسے فوراً پھیلا دیتے ہیں۔ اگر وہ اسے رسول اور اپنے ذمہ دار لوگوں کی طرف لوٹا دیتے تو ان میں سے اہلِ فہم لوگ اس کی حقیقت جان لیتے۔ اگر اللہ کا فضل اور رحمت نہ ہوتی تو تم میں سے بہت کم لوگ شیطان کی پیروی سے بچتے۔
Explanation
The verse teaches believers not to spread sensitive or uncertain information without verification. Important matters should be referred to knowledgeable and responsible people.
فَقَاتِلْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ لاَ تُكَلَّفُ إِلاَّ نَفْسَكَ وَحَرِّضِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَسَى اللّهُ أَن يَكُفَّ بَأْسَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ وَاللّهُ أَشَدُّ بَأْسًا وَأَشَدُّ تَنكِيلاً
English Meaning
So strive in Allah’s cause; you are responsible for yourself, and encourage the believers. It may be that Allah will restrain the strength of those who disbelieve. Allah is stronger in might and punishment.
Urdu Meaning
پس آپ اللہ کی راہ میں جدوجہد کریں، آپ پر صرف اپنی ذات کی ذمہ داری ہے، اور اہلِ ایمان کو بھی ابھاریں۔ امید ہے کہ اللہ کافروں کی طاقت کو روک دے گا۔ اور اللہ قوت میں سب سے زیادہ سخت اور سزا دینے میں زیادہ شدید ہے۔
Explanation
The verse emphasizes personal responsibility and courage. A believer should fulfill their duty without becoming dependent on whether others act.
مَّن يَشْفَعْ شَفَاعَةً حَسَنَةً يَكُن لَّهُ نَصِيبٌ مِّنْهَا وَمَن يَشْفَعْ شَفَاعَةً سَيِّئَةً يَكُن لَّهُ كِفْلٌ مِّنْهَا وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مُّقِيتًا
English Meaning
Whoever supports a good cause will receive a share of its reward, and whoever supports an evil cause will bear a share of its burden. Allah has power and watch over everything.

جو شخص کسی نیک کام کی سفارش یا مدد کرے گا اسے اس میں سے حصہ ملے گا، اور جو شخص کسی برے کام کی حمایت کرے گا اسے اس کے بوجھ میں حصہ ملے گا۔ اللہ ہر چیز پر نگہبان ہے۔
Explanation
Our influence on others matters. Helping someone do good brings reward, while supporting wrongdoing can make us responsible for part of its consequences.
وَإِذَا حُيِّيْتُم بِتَحِيَّةٍ فَحَيُّواْ بِأَحْسَنَ مِنْهَا أَوْ رُدُّوهَا إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ حَسِيبًا
English Meaning
When you are greeted with a greeting, respond with one better than it or at least return it equally. Surely Allah takes account of everything.
Urdu Meaning
اور جب تمہیں کسی سلام یا دعا کے ساتھ سلام کیا جائے تو اس سے بہتر طریقے سے جواب دو یا کم از کم اسی طرح جواب دو۔ بے شک اللہ ہر چیز کا حساب رکھنے والا ہے۔
Explanation
Islam teaches Muslims to respond to greetings with kindness and respect. Even a simple greeting is part of good character.
اللّهُ لا إِلَـهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ لَيَجْمَعَنَّكُمْ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ لاَ رَيْبَ فِيهِ وَمَنْ أَصْدَقُ مِنَ اللّهِ حَدِيثًا
English Meaning
Allah—there is no deity except Him. He will certainly gather you all on the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt. And whose word is more truthful than Allah’s?
Urdu Meaning
اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں۔ وہ تم سب کو قیامت کے دن ضرور جمع کرے گا، جس میں کوئی شک نہیں۔ اور اللہ سے بڑھ کر بات میں سچا کون ہو سکتا ہے؟
Explanation
This verse reinforces belief in Allah’s oneness and the certainty of the Day of Resurrection. Allah’s promise is completely true.
فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ وَاللّهُ أَرْكَسَهُم بِمَا كَسَبُواْ أَتُرِيدُونَ أَن تَهْدُواْ مَنْ أَضَلَّ اللّهُ وَمَن يُضْلِلِ اللّهُ فَلَن تَجِدَ لَهُ سَبِيلاً
English Meaning
Why have you become divided concerning the hypocrites when Allah has turned them back because of what they earned? Do you want to guide those whom Allah has allowed to go astray? Whoever Allah leaves astray will have no path to guidance.

تم منافقوں کے بارے میں دو گروہوں میں کیوں بٹ گئے ہو، حالانکہ اللہ نے ان کے اعمال کے سبب انہیں ان کی حالت کی طرف لوٹا دیا ہے؟ کیا تم اسے ہدایت دینا چاہتے ہو جسے اللہ نے گمراہی میں چھوڑ دیا؟ اور جسے اللہ گمراہ کر دے اس کے لیے کوئی راستہ نہیں۔
Explanation
The verse warns believers against being confused about people who deliberately persist in hypocrisy and wrongdoing. Guidance requires sincere acceptance of truth.
وَدُّواْ لَوْ تَكْفُرُونَ كَمَا كَفَرُواْ فَتَكُونُونَ سَوَاء فَلاَ تَتَّخِذُواْ مِنْهُمْ أَوْلِيَاء حَتَّىَ يُهَاجِرُواْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ فَإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ فَخُذُوهُمْ وَاقْتُلُوهُمْ حَيْثُ وَجَدتَّمُوهُمْ وَلاَ تَتَّخِذُواْ مِنْهُمْ وَلِيًّا وَلاَ نَصِيرًا
English Meaning
They wish that you would abandon faith as they have, so that you would become alike. Therefore, do not take them as allies in the circumstances described here until they demonstrate their commitment to the believers. If they turn away and become hostile, then the verse gives instructions concerning them.

وہ چاہتے ہیں کہ تم بھی اسی طرح کفر اختیار کر لو جیسے انہوں نے کیا تاکہ تم سب برابر ہو جاؤ۔ لہٰذا ان حالات میں انہیں اپنا حامی نہ بناؤ جب تک وہ اللہ کی راہ میں ہجرت اور وفاداری اختیار نہ کریں۔ اگر وہ منہ موڑیں اور دشمنی اختیار کریں تو آیت ان کے ساتھ جنگی معاملے میں احکام بیان کرتی ہے۔
Explanation
This verse addresses a specific conflict involving hostile hypocrites and the political and military circumstances of the early Muslim community. It should be understood together with the following verses, which identify important exceptions.
إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ يَصِلُونَ إِلَىَ قَوْمٍ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُم مِّيثَاقٌ أَوْ جَآؤُوكُمْ حَصِرَتْ صُدُورُهُمْ أَن يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ أَوْ يُقَاتِلُواْ قَوْمَهُمْ وَلَوْ شَاء اللّهُ لَسَلَّطَهُمْ عَلَيْكُمْ فَلَقَاتَلُوكُمْ فَإِنِ اعْتَزَلُوكُمْ فَلَمْ يُقَاتِلُوكُمْ وَأَلْقَوْاْ إِلَيْكُمُ السَّلَمَ فَمَا جَعَلَ اللّهُ لَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ سَبِيلاً
English Meaning
An exception applies to those who join people with whom you have a treaty, or those who come to you while unwilling to fight either you or their own people. If they withdraw from fighting, offer peace, and do not attack you, then Allah gives you no basis for fighting them.

مگر وہ لوگ اس حکم سے مستثنیٰ ہیں جو ایسے لوگوں کے پاس جا ملیں جن کے ساتھ تمہارا معاہدہ ہے، یا وہ تمہارے پاس اس حالت میں آئیں کہ نہ تم سے لڑنا چاہتے ہوں اور نہ اپنی قوم سے۔ اگر وہ تم سے الگ رہیں، تم سے جنگ نہ کریں اور صلح پیش کریں تو اللہ نے تمہارے لیے ان کے خلاف لڑائی کی کوئی راہ نہیں رکھی۔
Explanation
This verse establishes an important principle: those who refrain from fighting and offer peace are not to be treated as combatants.
سَتَجِدُونَ آخَرِينَ يُرِيدُونَ أَن يَأْمَنُوكُمْ وَيَأْمَنُواْ قَوْمَهُمْ كُلَّ مَا رُدُّواْ إِلَى الْفِتْنِةِ أُرْكِسُواْ فِيهَا فَإِن لَّمْ يَعْتَزِلُوكُمْ وَيُلْقُواْ إِلَيْكُمُ السَّلَمَ وَيَكُفُّواْ أَيْدِيَهُمْ فَخُذُوهُمْ وَاقْتُلُوهُمْ حَيْثُ ثَقِفْتُمُوهُمْ وَأُوْلَـئِكُمْ جَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَانًا مُّبِينًا
English Meaning
There will be others who seek security from you and from their own people, but whenever they return to hostility, they fall back into it. If they neither withdraw from fighting nor offer peace nor restrain their hands, then the verse describes how they are to be treated in the context of armed conflict.

تمہیں ایسے دوسرے لوگ بھی ملیں گے جو تم سے بھی امن چاہتے ہیں اور اپنی قوم سے بھی، لیکن جب انہیں فتنے اور دشمنی کی طرف لوٹایا جاتا ہے تو وہ دوبارہ اسی میں پڑ جاتے ہیں۔ اگر وہ تم سے الگ نہ ہوں، صلح نہ کریں اور اپنے ہاتھ نہ روکیں تو آیت جنگی حالت میں ان کے بارے میں حکم بیان کرتی ہے۔

وَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤْمِنٍ أَن يَقْتُلَ مُؤْمِنًا إِلاَّ خَطَئًا وَمَن قَتَلَ مُؤْمِنًا خَطَئًا فَتَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ مُّؤْمِنَةٍ وَدِيَةٌ مُّسَلَّمَةٌ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ إِلاَّ أَن يَصَّدَّقُواْ فَإِن كَانَ مِن قَوْمٍ عَدُوٍّ لَّكُمْ وَهُوَ مْؤْمِنٌ فَتَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ مُّؤْمِنَةٍ وَإِن كَانَ مِن قَوْمٍ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُم مِّيثَاقٌ فَدِيَةٌ مُّسَلَّمَةٌ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ وَتَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ مُّؤْمِنَةً فَمَن لَّمْ يَجِدْ فَصِيَامُ شَهْرَيْنِ مُتَتَابِعَيْنِ تَوْبَةً مِّنَ اللّهِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا
English Meaning
A believer should never intentionally kill another believer; accidental killing is treated differently and carries prescribed obligations, including compensation and expiation. Where the required means are unavailable, fasting for two consecutive months is prescribed as repentance. Allah is All-Knowing and Wise.

کسی مومن کے لیے جائز نہیں کہ وہ کسی مومن کو قتل کرے، سوائے اس کے کہ غلطی سے ایسا ہو جائے۔ جو شخص کسی مومن کو غلطی سے قتل کرے اس پر مقررہ کفارہ اور مقتول کے اہلِ خانہ کے لیے دیت کا حکم ہے، بعض حالات میں مختلف تفصیلات کے ساتھ۔ اور اگر یہ وسائل میسر نہ ہوں تو مسلسل دو ماہ کے روزے رکھنا کفارہ ہے۔ اللہ علم والا اور حکمت والا ہے۔

وَمَن يَقْتُلْ مُؤْمِنًا مُّتَعَمِّدًا فَجَزَآؤُهُ جَهَنَّمُ خَالِدًا فِيهَا وَغَضِبَ اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَلَعَنَهُ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُ عَذَابًا عَظِيمًا
English Meaning
Whoever deliberately kills a believer faces a severe warning: Hell, Allah’s anger and curse, and a tremendous punishment.

اور جو شخص کسی مومن کو جان بوجھ کر قتل کرے تو اس کی سزا جہنم ہے جس میں وہ رہے گا، اللہ اس پر غضب فرمائے گا، اسے اپنی رحمت سے دور کرے گا اور اس کے لیے بڑا عذاب تیار ہے۔

This powerful warning shows the enormous seriousness of intentionally taking an innocent believer’s life.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ إِذَا ضَرَبْتُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ فَتَبَيَّنُواْ وَلاَ تَقُولُواْ لِمَنْ أَلْقَى إِلَيْكُمُ السَّلاَمَ لَسْتَ مُؤْمِنًا تَبْتَغُونَ عَرَضَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا فَعِندَ اللّهِ مَغَانِمُ كَثِيرَةٌ كَذَلِكَ كُنتُم مِّن قَبْلُ فَمَنَّ اللّهُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَتَبَيَّنُواْ إِنَّ اللّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرًا
English Meaning
Believers are commanded that when they go forth in Allah’s cause, they must investigate carefully and should not dismiss someone who offers peace as an unbeliever merely for worldly gain. Allah knows what they do, and believers themselves were once in a similar condition before Allah blessed them with guidance.

اے ایمان والو! جب تم اللہ کی راہ میں نکلو تو خوب تحقیق کر لیا کرو، اور جو شخص تمہیں سلام پیش کرے اسے یہ نہ کہو کہ تم مومن نہیں ہو، دنیاوی فائدہ حاصل کرنے کی خواہش میں۔ اللہ کے پاس بہت سے فائدے ہیں۔ تم بھی پہلے ایسی حالت میں تھے، پھر اللہ نے تم پر فضل کیا۔ لہٰذا تحقیق کرو، بے شک اللہ تمہارے اعمال سے باخبر ہے۔
Explanation
The verse commands careful verification and warns against judging another person’s faith for material benefit.
لاَّ يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ غَيْرُ أُوْلِي الضَّرَرِ وَالْمُجَاهِدُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ فَضَّلَ اللّهُ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ بِأَمْوَالِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِينَ دَرَجَةً وَكُـلاًّ وَعَدَ اللّهُ الْحُسْنَى وَفَضَّلَ اللّهُ الْمُجَاهِدِينَ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِينَ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا
English Meaning
Those believers who remain behind without a valid disability are not equal in rank to those who strive in Allah’s cause with their wealth and lives. Allah has given those who make such sacrifices a higher reward, while promising good to all sincere believers.

وہ مومن جو کسی عذر کے بغیر بیٹھ رہتے ہیں ان کا درجہ ان لوگوں کے برابر نہیں جو اپنے مال اور جان کے ساتھ اللہ کی راہ میں جدوجہد کرتے ہیں۔ اللہ نے جان و مال سے جدوجہد کرنے والوں کو زیادہ اجر عطا فرمایا ہے، اگرچہ اللہ نے سب کے لیے بھلائی کا وعدہ کیا ہے۔
Explanation
The verse recognizes the greater sacrifice made by those who actively strive and sacrifice in Allah’s cause, while also acknowledging sincere believers who have valid reasons for remaining behind.
دَرَجَاتٍ مِّنْهُ وَمَغْفِرَةً وَرَحْمَةً وَكَانَ اللّهُ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا
English Meaning
They will receive higher درجات (ranks) from Allah, along with forgiveness and mercy. Allah is Ever-Forgiving and Most Merciful.

ان کے لیے اللہ کی طرف سے بلند درجات، مغفرت اور رحمت ہے، اور اللہ بہت بخشنے والا، نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔
Explanation
Allah rewards sincere sacrifice with elevated ranks, forgiveness, and mercy. His reward is accompanied by His immense compassion.
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ تَوَفَّاهُمُ الْمَلآئِكَةُ ظَالِمِي أَنْفُسِهِمْ قَالُواْ فِيمَ كُنتُمْ قَالُواْ كُنَّا مُسْتَضْعَفِينَ فِي الأَرْضِ قَالْوَاْ أَلَمْ تَكُنْ أَرْضُ اللّهِ وَاسِعَةً فَتُهَاجِرُواْ فِيهَا فَأُوْلَـئِكَ مَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَسَاءتْ مَصِيرًا
English Meaning
When the angels take the lives of those who wronged themselves, they ask about their condition. They claim that they were oppressed in the land. The angels respond by asking whether Allah’s earth was not spacious enough for them to move to a place where they could practice their faith. For such people, their destination is Hell.

بے شک جب فرشتے ان لوگوں کی جان قبض کرتے ہیں جنہوں نے اپنی جانوں پر ظلم کیا ہوتا ہے تو وہ پوچھتے ہیں: تم کس حالت میں تھے؟ وہ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم زمین میں کمزور اور مجبور تھے۔ فرشتے کہتے ہیں: کیا اللہ کی زمین وسیع نہ تھی کہ تم اس میں ہجرت کر جاتے؟ ایسے لوگوں کا ٹھکانا جہنم ہے، اور وہ بہت برا انجام ہے۔
Explanation
The verse warns those who remain in an environment where they cannot practice their faith despite having a genuine ability to leave.
إِلاَّ الْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ وَالنِّسَاء وَالْوِلْدَانِ لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ حِيلَةً وَلاَ يَهْتَدُونَ سَبِيلاً
English Meaning
Except for those genuinely oppressed among men, women, and children who have no ability to find a way out or a means of escape.
Urdu Meaning
مگر وہ کمزور مرد، عورتیں اور بچے جو واقعی بے بس ہیں، نہ کوئی تدبیر کر سکتے ہیں اور نہ نکلنے کا راستہ جانتے ہیں۔
Explanation
Allah recognizes genuine helplessness. People who truly have no ability to escape an oppressive situation are not treated like those who could have acted but deliberately refused.
فَأُوْلَـئِكَ عَسَى اللّهُ أَن يَعْفُوَ عَنْهُمْ وَكَانَ اللّهُ عَفُوًّا غَفُورًا
English Meaning
For such people, Allah may pardon them. Allah is Most Pardoning and Most Forgiving.
Urdu Meaning
ایسے لوگوں سے امید ہے کہ اللہ درگزر فرمائے گا، اور اللہ بہت معاف کرنے والا، بہت بخشنے والا ہے۔
Explanation
This verse gives hope to those who are genuinely unable to escape their difficult circumstances. Allah’s mercy encompasses those who are truly helpless.
وَمَن يُهَاجِرْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللّهِ يَجِدْ فِي الأَرْضِ مُرَاغَمًا كَثِيرًا وَسَعَةً وَمَن يَخْرُجْ مِن بَيْتِهِ مُهَاجِرًا إِلَى اللّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ثُمَّ يُدْرِكْهُ الْمَوْتُ فَقَدْ وَقَعَ أَجْرُهُ عَلى اللّهِ وَكَانَ اللّهُ غَفُورًا رَّحِيمًا
English Meaning
Whoever migrates for the sake of Allah will find many places and opportunities on the earth. Whoever leaves their home intending to migrate toward Allah and His Messenger, but death overtakes them before reaching their destination, their reward is guaranteed by Allah. Allah is Ever-Forgiving and Most Merciful.

اور جو شخص اللہ کی راہ میں ہجرت کرے گا وہ زمین میں بہت سے ٹھکانے اور کشادگی پائے گا۔ اور جو اپنے گھر سے اللہ اور اس کے رسول کی طرف ہجرت کے ارادے سے نکلے، پھر اسے موت آ جائے تو اس کا اجر اللہ کے ذمے ثابت ہو گیا۔ اور اللہ بہت بخشنے والا، نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔
