In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
Ayah 1

English Meaning

All praise belongs to Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth and made darkness and light. Yet some people still set up others as equals with their Lord.

Explanation

The Surah begins by directing all praise to Allah, the Creator of the entire universe. His creation is a clear sign of His power and Oneness, yet people may still turn away from this truth and associate partners with Him.

Ayah 2

English Meaning

He is the One Who created you from clay, then appointed a term for your life and another appointed time known only to Him. Yet you continue to doubt.

Explanation

Allah reminds humanity of its origin and of the certainty of appointed times. Human life is limited, while the knowledge of the final appointed time belongs to Allah.

Ayah 3

English Meaning

He is Allah in the heavens and on earth. He knows what you conceal and what you reveal, and He knows all that you do.

Explanation

Nothing is hidden from Allah. He knows both private thoughts and public actions, reminding believers that their deeds are always within His knowledge.

Ayah 4

English Meaning

Whenever a sign comes to them from their Lord, they turn away from it.

Explanation

Allah describes the attitude of those who repeatedly reject His signs. The problem is not a lack of evidence, but their unwillingness to accept and reflect upon it.

Ayah 5

English Meaning

They rejected the truth when it came to them, and they will eventually face the consequences of what they used to ridicule.

Explanation

Rejecting truth and mocking divine guidance does not make it false. The verse warns that people will eventually encounter the reality of what they rejected.

Ayah 6

English Meaning

Have they not seen how many earlier generations Allah established on earth with abundant rain and flowing rivers, yet they were destroyed because of their sins and replaced by others?

Explanation

Power, wealth, fertile land, and prosperity do not guarantee lasting success. Previous nations were given great opportunities, but when they persisted in wrongdoing, they faced the consequences.

Ayah 7

English Meaning

Even if We sent down a written scripture that they could touch with their own hands, those who rejected faith would still say, “This is nothing but obvious magic.”

Explanation

The verse shows how stubborn rejection can prevent a person from accepting truth even when presented with something they directly experience.

Ayah 8

English Meaning

They said, “Why was an angel not sent down with him?” But if an angel had been sent, the matter would have been settled and they would not have been given further time.

Explanation

The rejecters demanded extraordinary signs, but Allah explains that such demands do not necessarily lead to faith. If an angel had come in the decisive manner they demanded, there would have been no further delay.

Ayah 9

English Meaning

Had We sent an angel, We would have made him appear as a man, which would only have caused them further confusion.

Explanation

The verse points out that their objection would not necessarily disappear through another form of messenger. Their problem was deeper than simply seeing an angel.

Ayah 10

English Meaning

Messengers before you were also mocked, but those who mocked them were eventually surrounded by the very punishment they used to ridicule.

Explanation

The Prophet ﷺ is reminded that rejection and mockery of messengers had happened before. Allah's message does not become false because people ridicule it.

Ayah 11

English Meaning

Say, “Travel through the land and observe what happened to those who rejected the truth.”

Explanation

Allah invites people to learn from history and observe the consequences faced by those who rejected the truth. History can become a source of reflection and warning.

Ayah 12

English Meaning

Ask, “To whom belongs everything in the heavens and the earth?” Say, “To Allah.” He has decreed mercy for Himself and will gather everyone on the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt.

Explanation

Everything belongs to Allah, and His mercy is emphasized alongside the certainty of the Day of Judgment. The verse combines hope in Allah's mercy with awareness of accountability.

Ayah 13

English Meaning

To Him belongs whatever exists in the night and the day, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

Explanation

Allah's ownership extends over everything in every time and place. His perfect hearing and knowledge mean that nothing escapes His awareness.

Ayah 14

English Meaning

Say, “Would I take anyone other than Allah as a protector, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, Who provides for all and needs no provision?” The Prophet is commanded to submit to Allah and not be among those who associate partners with Him.

Explanation

Allah alone is the Creator and Provider, so He alone deserves ultimate devotion and reliance. The Prophet ﷺ is commanded to demonstrate complete submission to Allah.

Ayah 15

English Meaning

Say, “I fear that if I disobey my Lord, I will face the punishment of a tremendous Day.”

Explanation

The verse teaches that awareness of the Hereafter should create humility and obedience. Even the Messenger ﷺ is commanded to emphasize the seriousness of disobedience.

Ayah 16

English Meaning

Whoever is spared the punishment of that Day has received Allah's mercy, and that is the clear success.

Explanation

True success is not simply worldly wealth or achievement. The greatest success is to receive Allah's mercy and be protected from punishment in the Hereafter.

Ayah 17

English Meaning

If Allah touches you with hardship, no one can remove it except Him. And if He grants you good, He is capable of everything.

Explanation

This verse strengthens reliance upon Allah. Hardship and ease are both under His power, so believers should turn to Him in difficulty and remain grateful in times of blessing.

Ayah 18

English Meaning

Say, “What testimony is greatest?” Say, “Allah is witness between me and you. This Qur'an has been revealed to me so that I may warn you and whoever it reaches. Do you truly testify that there are other gods besides Allah?” Say, “I do not testify to that. He is only One God, and I am free from whatever you associate with Him.”

Explanation

This verse clearly establishes the purpose of the Qur'an as a warning and message for those who receive it. It also presents the central declaration of Tawheed: Allah is One and has no partner in worship.

Ayah 20

English Meaning

Those who were given the Scripture recognize it as clearly as they recognize their own children. Yet those who have caused themselves loss do not believe.

Urdu Meaning
