بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
Ayah 61

English Meaning

If anyone argues with you about Isa after the knowledge has come to you, say: “Come, let us bring our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then earnestly call upon Allah and ask Him to place His curse upon those who are lying.”

Urdu Meaning

پس علم آجانے کے بعد جو شخص عیسیٰ کے بارے میں آپ سے بحث کرے، اس سے کہہ دیجیے: آؤ ہم اپنے بیٹوں اور تمہارے بیٹوں، اپنی عورتوں اور تمہاری عورتوں، اپنے آپ اور تمہارے آپ کو جمع کریں، پھر ہم سب مل کر دعا کریں اور جھوٹوں پر اللہ کی لعنت طلب کریں۔

Explanation

This Ayah is connected with the discussion about Isa عليه السلام and the truth of his status. It presents Mubahalah as a solemn appeal to Allah's judgment when sincere discussion has reached an impasse. The verse emphasizes that truth should not be knowingly exchanged for falsehood.

Ayah 62

إِنَّ هَذَا لَهُوَ الْقَصَصُ الْحَقُّ وَمَا مِنْ إِلَهٍ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ

English Meaning

Indeed, this is the true account. There is no deity except Allah, and Allah alone is the Almighty, the All-Wise.

Urdu Meaning

بے شک یہی سچی سرگزشت ہے، اور اللہ کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، اور بے شک اللہ ہی غالب اور حکمت والا ہے۔

Explanation

After discussing Isa, the Quran summarizes the central truth: Allah alone deserves worship. The account being presented is described as the true account, while Allah's power and wisdom are affirmed.

Ayah 63

فَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ بِالْمُفْسِدِينَ

English Meaning

If they turn away, then Allah surely knows those who spread corruption.

Urdu Meaning

پھر اگر وہ منہ موڑیں تو بے شک اللہ فساد کرنے والوں کو خوب جانتا ہے۔

Explanation

The responsibility of conveying truth does not depend upon everyone accepting it. Allah knows the intentions and actions of those who reject truth and cause corruption.

Ayah 64

English Meaning

Say: “O People of the Scripture, come to a fair and common principle between us and you: that we worship none but Allah, associate nothing with Him, and do not take one another as lords besides Allah.” If they turn away, say: “Bear witness that we are those who submit to Allah.”

Explanation

This is an important Quranic foundation for dialogue with the People of the Scripture. The common principle begins with worshipping Allah alone and rejecting association of partners with Him. It also rejects giving human beings the ultimate authority that belongs to Allah.

Ayah 65

يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ لِمَ تُحَاجُّونَ فِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَمَا أُنْزِلَتِ التَّوْرَاةُ وَالْإِنْجِيلُ إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْدِهِ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

English Meaning

O People of the Scripture, why do you argue about Ibrahim when the Torah and the Gospel were revealed only after him? Will you not use your reason?

Urdu Meaning

اے اہلِ کتاب! تم ابراہیم کے بارے میں کیوں جھگڑتے ہو جبکہ تورات اور انجیل تو ان کے بعد نازل ہوئیں؟ کیا تم عقل سے کام نہیں لیتے؟

Explanation

The Quran points out the historical inconsistency in assigning Ibrahim عليه السلام to later religious communities in the same sense as their later revealed laws. Ibrahim preceded the Torah and Gospel and is presented as a servant of Allah devoted to pure monotheism.

Ayah 66

هَا أَنْتُمْ هَٰؤُلَاءِ حَاجَجْتُمْ فِيمَا لَكُمْ بِهِ عِلْمٌ فَلِمَ تُحَاجُّونَ فِيمَا لَيْسَ لَكُمْ بِهِ عِلْمٌ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

English Meaning

Here you are arguing about matters concerning which you have some knowledge. Why then argue about something of which you have no knowledge? Allah knows, while you do not know.

Urdu Meaning

دیکھو، تم ان معاملات میں بحث کرچکے ہو جن کے بارے میں تمہیں کچھ علم تھا، پھر ان چیزوں کے بارے میں کیوں بحث کرتے ہو جن کا تمہیں علم نہیں؟ اللہ جانتا ہے اور تم نہیں جانتے۔

Explanation

This Ayah teaches an important principle of intellectual honesty: do not claim knowledge where there is none. Allah's knowledge is complete, while human knowledge is limited.

Ayah 67

مَا كَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَهُودِيًّا وَلَا نَصْرَانِيًّا وَلَٰكِنْ كَانَ حَنِيفًا مُسْلِمًا وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ

English Meaning

Ibrahim was neither a Jew nor a Christian. Rather, he was devoted exclusively to truth and submitted himself to Allah, and he was not among those who associated partners with Him.

Urdu Meaning

ابراہیم نہ یہودی تھے اور نہ عیسائی، بلکہ وہ یکسو ہوکر اللہ کے فرمانبردار تھے اور مشرکین میں سے نہ تھے۔

Explanation

The Quran describes Ibrahim as Hanif—turning away from false worship toward pure monotheism—and Muslim, meaning one who submits to Allah. This establishes his devotion to Allah before the later religious communities mentioned in the verse.

Ayah 68

إِنَّ أَوْلَى النَّاسِ بِإِبْرَاهِيمَ لَلَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوهُ وَهَٰذَا النَّبِيُّ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَاللَّهُ وَلِيُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

English Meaning

The people closest in claim to Ibrahim are those who truly followed him, along with this Prophet and those who believe. And Allah is the protector of the believers.

Urdu Meaning

بے شک ابراہیم سے سب سے زیادہ تعلق رکھنے والے وہ لوگ ہیں جنہوں نے ان کی پیروی کی، اور یہ نبی اور ایمان والے بھی۔ اور اللہ ایمان والوں کا مددگار ہے۔

Explanation

True connection to Ibrahim is based upon following his faith and devotion to Allah, not merely claiming a historical or ethnic association. The verse connects the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and the believers with Ibrahim's monotheistic path.

Ayah 69

وَدَّتْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَوْ يُضِلُّونَكُمْ وَمَا يُضِلُّونَ إِلَّا أَنْفُسَهُمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ

English Meaning

A group among the People of the Scripture wishes to lead you astray, but they only harm themselves while they do not realize it.

Urdu Meaning

اہلِ کتاب میں سے ایک گروہ چاہتا ہے کہ تمہیں گمراہ کردے، حالانکہ وہ اپنے سوا کسی کو گمراہ نہیں کرتے، مگر انہیں اس کا شعور نہیں۔

Explanation

The Quran warns believers against deliberate attempts to pull them away from faith. The warning concerns a particular group and should not be generalized to every individual among the People of the Scripture.

Ayah 70

يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ لِمَ تَكْفُرُونَ بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ وَأَنْتُمْ تَشْهَدُونَ

English Meaning

O People of the Scripture, why do you reject Allah's signs even though you recognize and witness them?

Urdu Meaning

اے اہلِ کتاب! تم اللہ کی آیات کا انکار کیوں کرتے ہو جبکہ تم خود ان کے گواہ ہو؟

Explanation

The verse challenges rejection despite recognition of revealed signs. Knowledge creates responsibility: when a person recognizes truth, deliberately rejecting it becomes a serious matter.

Ayah 71

يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ لِمَ تَلْبِسُونَ الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُونَ الْحَقَّ وَأَنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

English Meaning

O People of the Scripture, why do you mix truth with falsehood and conceal the truth while you know it?

Urdu Meaning

اے اہلِ کتاب! تم حق کو باطل کے ساتھ کیوں ملا دیتے ہو اور جانتے بوجھتے حق کو کیوں چھپاتے ہو؟

Explanation

The verse warns against deliberately confusing truth and falsehood. It highlights the seriousness of concealing known truth, especially when a person has access to revelation and knowledge.

Ayah 72

وَقَالَتْ طَائِفَةٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ آمِنُوا بِالَّذِي أُنْزِلَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَجْهَ النَّهَارِ وَاكْفُرُوا آخِرَهُ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ

English Meaning

A group among the People of the Scripture said: “Believe in what has been revealed to the believers at the beginning of the day, then reject it later, perhaps they will turn back from their faith.”

Urdu Meaning

اہلِ کتاب میں سے ایک گروہ نے کہا: جو کچھ ایمان والوں پر نازل ہوا ہے، دن کے آغاز میں اس پر ایمان لاؤ اور آخر میں اس کا انکار کردو، شاید وہ اپنے دین سے واپس ہوجائیں۔

Explanation

This describes a deliberate strategy intended to create confusion and doubt among believers. The verse exposes manipulation of religious belief for the purpose of weakening another person's faith.

Ayah 73

English Meaning

They also said: “Do not trust anyone except those who follow your religion.” Say: “True guidance is Allah's guidance.” Allah grants His favor to whom He wills, and His favor is vast, and He knows all things.

Urdu Meaning

اور انہوں نے کہا: صرف اسی کی بات مانو جو تمہارے دین کی پیروی کرے۔ کہہ دیجیے: حقیقی ہدایت تو اللہ کی ہدایت ہے۔ اللہ اپنا فضل جسے چاہتا ہے دیتا ہے، اور اللہ بڑی وسعت والا، سب کچھ جاننے والا ہے۔

Explanation

Human beings cannot restrict Allah's guidance or favor to their own group. Guidance and divine favor belong to Allah, and He gives them according to His wisdom.

Ayah 74

يَخْتَصُّ بِرَحْمَتِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَاللَّهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ

English Meaning

Allah specially grants His mercy to whom He wills, and Allah is the Possessor of immense bounty.

Urdu Meaning

اللہ اپنی رحمت کے لیے جسے چاہتا ہے مخصوص کرلیتا ہے، اور اللہ بہت بڑے فضل والا ہے۔

Explanation

Allah's mercy and bounty are not controlled by human claims. The verse teaches humility: believers should seek Allah's mercy rather than assuming that divine favor belongs to them automatically.

Ayah 75

English Meaning

Among the People of the Scripture are those who, if entrusted with a great amount, return it to you, while others would not return even a small amount unless you constantly demanded it. They claim that they are not accountable concerning those outside their community, but they knowingly attribute falsehood to Allah.

Explanation

This Ayah is important because it does not condemn every individual from the People of the Scripture. It explicitly distinguishes between people who faithfully return trusts and those who betray them. The Quran therefore judges people according to their conduct rather than simply placing everyone into one category.

Ayah 76

بَلَىٰ مَنْ أَوْفَىٰ بِعَهْدِهِ وَاتَّقَىٰ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَّقِينَ

English Meaning

Rather, whoever fulfills their covenant and remains mindful of Allah—then surely Allah loves those who are conscious of Him.

Urdu Meaning

کیوں نہیں! جو اپنے عہد کو پورا کرے اور تقویٰ اختیار کرے تو بے شک اللہ متقی لوگوں سے محبت کرتا ہے۔

Explanation

Allah establishes a universal moral standard: fulfilling promises and maintaining taqwa are qualities worthy of His love. Integrity is not restricted by ethnicity, nationality, or social group.

Ayah 77

English Meaning

Those who exchange Allah's covenant and their oaths for a small worldly gain will have no share in the Hereafter. Allah will not favor them on the Day of Resurrection, nor purify them, and they will face a painful punishment.

Urdu Meaning

بے شک جو لوگ اللہ کے عہد اور اپنی قسموں کے بدلے تھوڑی سی دنیاوی قیمت حاصل کرتے ہیں، ان کے لیے آخرت میں کوئی حصہ نہیں۔ قیامت کے دن اللہ ان سے کلام نہیں کرے گا، نہ ان کی طرف رحمت کی نظر کرے گا اور نہ انہیں پاک کرے گا، اور ان کے لیے دردناک عذاب ہے۔

Explanation

The verse gives a severe warning against using oaths and religious commitments as tools for worldly profit. It shows that dishonesty involving Allah's name is not a minor matter.

Ayah 78

English Meaning

Among them is a group who distort the words of Scripture with their tongues so that you may think what they say is from the Scripture, although it is not. They claim it is from Allah when it is not, knowingly speaking falsely about Allah.

Explanation

The warning concerns deliberately misrepresenting revelation. The central lesson is that religious knowledge must be handled honestly and that people should distinguish revealed scripture from human interpretation or fabrication.

Ayah 79

English Meaning

It is not fitting for a human being whom Allah has given Scripture, wisdom, and prophethood to tell people, “Become my servants instead of Allah.” Rather, he would say, “Become devoted servants of your Lord because you teach and study the Scripture.”

Urdu Meaning

کسی ایسے انسان کے لیے جسے اللہ کتاب، حکمت اور نبوت عطا کرے، یہ مناسب نہیں کہ وہ لوگوں سے کہے کہ اللہ کے بجائے میرے بندے بن جاؤ۔ بلکہ وہ کہے گا کہ رب والے بن جاؤ، کیونکہ تم کتاب سکھاتے اور پڑھتے ہو۔

Explanation

A genuine prophet does not call people to worship himself. Prophets direct people toward Allah. This verse also highlights the concept of becoming Rabbaniyyin—people deeply devoted to their Lord through learning, teaching, and living by revelation.

Ayah 80

وَلَا يَأْمُرَكُمْ أَنْ تَتَّخِذُوا الْمَلَائِكَةَ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ أَرْبَابًا ۗ أَيَأْمُرُكُمْ بِالْكُفْرِ بَعْدَ إِذْ أَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ

English Meaning

Nor would he command you to take the angels and prophets as lords. Would he command you to disbelief after you have submitted to Allah?

Urdu Meaning

اور نہ وہ تمہیں یہ حکم دے گا کہ فرشتوں اور نبیوں کو رب بنا لو۔ کیا وہ تمہارے مسلمان ہوجانے کے بعد تمہیں کفر کا حکم دے گا؟

Explanation

The message of a true prophet is fundamentally opposed to worshipping created beings. Prophets and angels are honored servants of Allah, but they are not to be treated as independent objects of worship or as partners with Him.
