بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
Ayah 161

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَمَاتُوا۟ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ لَعْنَةُ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ وَٱلنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ

English Meaning

Those who reject faith and die while remaining in disbelief are under the curse of Allah, the angels, and all people.

Urdu Meaning

بے شک جو لوگ کفر کریں اور اسی حالت میں مر جائیں کہ وہ کافر ہوں، ان پر اللہ، فرشتوں اور تمام لوگوں کی لعنت ہے۔

Explanation

This verse describes the serious consequence of knowingly remaining in disbelief until death. It follows the previous verses about concealing truth and contrasts permanent rejection with sincere repentance. The warning concerns those who die while persisting in disbelief, not someone who repents and turns back to Allah before death.

Ayah 162

خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۖ لَا يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ

English Meaning

They will remain in it; their punishment will not be lightened for them, nor will they be given respite.

Urdu Meaning

وہ اس میں ہمیشہ رہیں گے، نہ ان کے عذاب میں کمی کی جائے گی اور نہ انہیں مہلت دی جائے گی۔

Explanation

The verse continues the warning of 2:161. It emphasizes the permanence and severity of the punishment for those who die in disbelief. There is no opportunity after death to postpone or escape the consequence.

Ayah 163

وَإِلَـٰهُكُمْ إِلَـٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ ۖ لَّآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

English Meaning

Your God is one God. There is no deity worthy of worship except Him, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

Urdu Meaning

اور تمہارا معبود ایک ہی معبود ہے، اس کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، وہ نہایت مہربان، بہت رحم فرمانے والا ہے۔

Explanation

After warning against disbelief, the Quran states the foundation of faith: Allah alone deserves worship. His oneness is joined with His names Ar-Rahman and Ar-Raheem, reminding believers that true worship is connected with recognizing Allah's mercy.

Ayah 164

English Meaning

Surely, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, the alternation of night and day, the ships sailing through the sea for people's benefit, the rain that gives life to the earth, the creatures spread throughout it, the changing winds, and the clouds directed between heaven and earth are signs for people who use reason.

Explanation

This verse calls people to observe creation thoughtfully. The heavens, earth, day and night, rain, living creatures, winds, ships and clouds are presented as signs pointing toward Allah's power, wisdom and control. The verse specifically connects these signs with people who use their reason.

Ayah 165

English Meaning

Among people are those who take others besides Allah as equals and love them as they should love Allah. But the believers are stronger in their love for Allah. If only the wrongdoers could see, when they face the punishment, that all power belongs to Allah and that Allah is severe in punishment.

Explanation

True faith places Allah above every other love and loyalty. The verse does not condemn ordinary human love; rather, it warns against giving created beings a status of worship or ultimate devotion that belongs to Allah alone. Believers recognize Allah's supreme authority and therefore love Him above all else.

Ayah 166

إِذْ تَبَرَّأَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتُّبِعُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ وَرَأَوُا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ وَتَقَطَّعَتْ بِهِمُ ٱلْأَسْبَابُ

English Meaning

When those who were followed will disown those who followed them, and they will all see the punishment, all connections between them will be cut off.

Urdu Meaning

جب وہ لوگ جن کی پیروی کی گئی تھی، اپنے پیروکاروں سے بیزاری ظاہر کریں گے، عذاب دیکھیں گے اور ان کے تمام تعلقات و سہارے ٹوٹ جائیں گے۔

Explanation

On the Day of Judgment, false alliances will have no value. Leaders, influential figures and others who were followed cannot rescue those who blindly followed them. The relationships that seemed powerful in worldly life will disappear when everyone faces Allah's judgment.

Ayah 167

English Meaning

Those who followed will say, “If only we could return once more, we would disown them just as they have disowned us.” Thus Allah will show them their deeds as regrets, and they will not leave the Fire.

Urdu Meaning

اور پیروی کرنے والے کہیں گے: کاش ہمیں ایک بار پھر دنیا میں لوٹنے کا موقع ملتا تو ہم ان سے اسی طرح بیزاری اختیار کرتے جیسے انہوں نے ہم سے کی۔ اسی طرح اللہ انہیں ان کے اعمال حسرت بنا کر دکھائے گا، اور وہ آگ سے نکلنے والے نہیں ہوں گے۔

Explanation

The regret of the followers comes too late. In worldly life they surrendered their judgment to others, but in the Hereafter they will recognize the consequences of their choices. The verse teaches that personal responsibility cannot simply be transferred to another person.

Ayah 168

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ كُلُوا۟ مِمَّا فِي ٱلْأَرْضِ حَلَـٰلًا طَيِّبًا وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا۟ خُطُوَٰتِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ

English Meaning

O humanity, eat from what is lawful and wholesome on the earth, and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Surely, he is your clear enemy.

Urdu Meaning

اے لوگو! زمین میں موجود حلال اور پاکیزہ چیزیں کھاؤ اور شیطان کے قدموں کی پیروی نہ کرو، بے شک وہ تمہارا کھلا دشمن ہے۔

Explanation

Islam teaches that food should be both halal and tayyib—lawful and wholesome. The warning against Satan's “footsteps” also teaches that wrongdoing can develop gradually through a series of seemingly small choices.

Ayah 169

إِنَّمَا يَأْمُرُكُم بِٱلسُّوٓءِ وَٱلْفَحْشَآءِ وَأَن تَقُولُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

English Meaning

He only commands you toward evil, indecency, and saying about Allah what you do not know.

Urdu Meaning

وہ تمہیں صرف برائی، بے حیائی اور اس بات کا حکم دیتا ہے کہ تم اللہ کے بارے میں وہ بات کہو جس کا تمہیں علم نہیں۔

Explanation

The verse identifies three dangerous paths: evil actions, indecent behavior, and speaking about Allah without knowledge. The final warning is especially important for religious teaching: Muslims should not attribute beliefs, rulings or statements to Allah without reliable evidence.

Ayah 170

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ قَالُوا۟ بَلْ نَتَّبِعُ مَآ أَلْفَيْنَا عَلَيْهِ ءَابَآءَنَا ۗ أَوَلَوْ كَانَ ءَابَآؤُهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يَهْتَدُونَ

English Meaning

When they are told, “Follow what Allah has revealed,” they say, “Rather, we will follow what we found our forefathers upon.” Even if their forefathers understood nothing and were not guided?

Urdu Meaning

اور جب ان سے کہا جاتا ہے کہ اللہ نے جو نازل کیا ہے اس کی پیروی کرو، تو وہ کہتے ہیں: بلکہ ہم اسی طریقے کی پیروی کریں گے جس پر ہم نے اپنے باپ دادا کو پایا۔ کیا پھر بھی اگر ان کے باپ دادا نہ کچھ سمجھتے ہوں اور نہ ہدایت یافتہ ہوں؟

Explanation

The Quran challenges blind attachment to inherited customs when they conflict with revelation and sound understanding. Respect for one's family or culture does not mean accepting every inherited belief without examining whether it is true and guided.

Ayah 171

وَمَثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ كَمَثَلِ ٱلَّذِي يَنْعِقُ بِمَا لَا يَسْمَعُ إِلَّا دُعَآءً وَنِدَآءً ۚ صُمٌّۢ بُكْمٌ عُمْيٌ فَهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ

English Meaning

The example of those who reject faith is like someone calling out to animals that hear only sounds and calls. They are deaf, dumb and blind, so they do not understand.

Urdu Meaning

اور کافروں کی مثال اس شخص کی مانند ہے جو ایسے جانوروں کو پکارتا ہے جو صرف پکار اور آواز سنتے ہیں۔ وہ بہرے، گونگے اور اندھے ہیں، پس وہ سمجھتے نہیں۔

Explanation

The comparison highlights the failure to understand and respond to guidance. The issue is not physical inability but the refusal to listen, speak truthfully and see the evidence with understanding.

Ayah 172

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُلُوا۟ مِن طَيِّبَـٰتِ مَا رَزَقْنَـٰكُمْ وَٱشْكُرُوا۟ لِلَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ

English Meaning

O believers, eat from the good things We have provided for you and be grateful to Allah, if it is Him alone that you worship.

Urdu Meaning

اے ایمان والو! جو پاکیزہ چیزیں ہم نے تمہیں عطا کی ہیں ان میں سے کھاؤ اور اللہ کا شکر ادا کرو، اگر تم اسی کی عبادت کرتے ہو۔

Explanation

Allah connects lawful provision with gratitude. A believer should recognize food, wealth and other blessings as provisions from Allah rather than treating them as purely personal achievements. Gratitude should be expressed through worship and responsible use of blessings.

Ayah 173

English Meaning

He has only forbidden you carrion, blood, pork, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah. But whoever is compelled by necessity, without seeking it or exceeding the limit, bears no sin. Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Urdu Meaning

اس نے تم پر صرف مردار، خون، خنزیر کا گوشت اور وہ چیز حرام کی ہے جس پر اللہ کے سوا کسی اور کا نام لیا گیا ہو۔ پھر جو شخص مجبوری میں ہو، نہ خواہش سے اور نہ حد سے بڑھنے والا، تو اس پر گناہ نہیں۔ بے شک اللہ بخشنے والا، رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

Explanation

This verse establishes important Quranic principles concerning prohibited foods and genuine necessity. The exception shows that Islamic law recognizes unavoidable hardship. However, necessity does not mean deliberately choosing prohibited food when lawful alternatives are available.

Ayah 174

English Meaning

Those who conceal what Allah has revealed in the Book and exchange it for a small worldly gain are consuming nothing but Fire into their bellies. Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection or purify them, and they will have a painful punishment.

Urdu Meaning

بے شک جو لوگ اللہ کی نازل کردہ کتاب کی باتوں کو چھپاتے ہیں اور اس کے بدلے تھوڑی سی دنیاوی قیمت لیتے ہیں، وہ اپنے پیٹوں میں آگ کے سوا کچھ نہیں بھرتے۔ قیامت کے دن اللہ نہ ان سے کلام کرے گا نہ انہیں پاک کرے گا، اور ان کے لیے دردناک عذاب ہے۔

Explanation

The verse strongly condemns deliberately hiding revealed truth for worldly benefit. Knowledge carries responsibility. Religious truth must not be manipulated, concealed or sold for personal advantage. This connects directly with the warning about concealing guidance in the preceding passage.

Ayah 175

أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱشْتَرَوُا۟ ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةَ بِٱلْهُدَىٰ وَٱلْعَذَابَ بِٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ ۚ فَمَآ أَصْبَرَهُمْ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ

English Meaning

They are the ones who exchanged guidance for error and forgiveness for punishment. How persistent they are in choosing the Fire!

Urdu Meaning

یہی وہ لوگ ہیں جنہوں نے ہدایت کے بدلے گمراہی اور مغفرت کے بدلے عذاب خرید لیا۔ پس وہ آگ برداشت کرنے کے معاملے میں کس قدر دلیر ہیں!

Explanation

The language of “exchange” shows the tragic nature of their choice. They possessed access to guidance but preferred a temporary worldly benefit. The closing expression conveys amazement at their willingness to pursue a path whose final result is punishment.

Ayah 176

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ نَزَّلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ فِي ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَفِي شِقَاقٍۭ بَعِيدٍ

English Meaning

That is because Allah sent down the Book with truth. Those who dispute about the Book are certainly in deep opposition.

Urdu Meaning

یہ اس لیے ہے کہ اللہ نے کتاب حق کے ساتھ نازل کی، اور بے شک جو لوگ کتاب کے بارے میں اختلاف اور مخالفت کرتے ہیں وہ بہت دور کی مخالفت میں پڑے ہوئے ہیں۔

Explanation

The Quran was revealed with truth and purpose. The problem is therefore not a deficiency in divine revelation but the response of people who knowingly oppose or distort it. The verse warns against turning revealed guidance into a source of deliberate conflict and rejection.

Ayah 177

English Meaning

Righteousness is not merely turning your face toward the east or west. Rather, true righteousness is believing in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the Book and the prophets; giving wealth, despite loving it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, travelers, those who ask, and for freeing people from bondage; establishing Prayer and giving zakah; fulfilling promises; and remaining patient in poverty, hardship and times of conflict. Such people are truthful, and they are the mindful of Allah.

Explanation

This is one of the Quran's most comprehensive descriptions of righteousness. Worship is not reduced to an outward direction or ritual form. True righteousness combines correct belief, worship, generosity, fulfilling commitments and patience. The verse shows that genuine faith must produce ethical and practical behavior.

Ayah 178

English Meaning

O believers, legal retribution is prescribed for cases of murder: a free person for a free person, a slave for a slave, and a female for a female. But if the victim's side grants forgiveness, the matter should be pursued fairly and compensation should be paid with good conduct. This is an easing and mercy from your Lord. Whoever transgresses after that will have a painful punishment.

Explanation

The verse establishes qisas as a framework for justice in cases of murder while also explicitly opening the door to forgiveness and fair compensation. It therefore combines accountability with mercy. The legal application of qisas belongs to legitimate judicial authority, not private individuals taking revenge.

Ayah 179

وَلَكُمْ فِي ٱلْقِصَاصِ حَيَوٰةٌ يَـٰٓأُو۟لِي ٱلْأَلْبَـٰبِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ

English Meaning

There is life for you in legal retribution, O people of understanding, so that you may become mindful of Allah.

Urdu Meaning

اور اے عقل والو! تمہارے لیے قصاص میں زندگی ہے، تاکہ تم تقویٰ اختیار کرو۔

Explanation

The Quran describes just legal retribution as a means of protecting life. When serious violence has lawful consequences, it can deter further killing and prevent cycles of uncontrolled revenge. The verse calls people of understanding to recognize the wider wisdom behind justice.

Ayah 180

كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ إِن تَرَكَ خَيْرًا ٱلْوَصِيَّةُ لِلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ وَٱلْأَقْرَبِينَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۖ حَقًّا عَلَى ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ

English Meaning

It is prescribed that when death approaches any of you, if they leave wealth, a fair bequest should be made for parents and close relatives. This is a duty upon those who are mindful of Allah.

Urdu Meaning

تم پر فرض کیا گیا ہے کہ جب تم میں سے کسی کی موت کا وقت آئے اور وہ مال چھوڑ رہا ہو تو والدین اور قریبی رشتہ داروں کے لیے معروف طریقے کے مطابق وصیت کرے۔ یہ متقی لوگوں پر حق ہے۔

Explanation

This verse addresses responsible planning for one's wealth before death. It emphasizes fairness, family responsibility and awareness of Allah. The later Quranic inheritance verses establish fixed shares for heirs, so this verse should be understood together with the broader Quranic rules of inheritance and bequests.
