ٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ يَتْلُونَهُۥ حَقَّ تِلَاوَتِهِۦٓ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۗ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَٰسِرُونَ
English Meaning
Those to whom We have given the Scripture and who recite and follow it as it should be followed truly believe in it. Whoever rejects it—those are the losers.
Urdu Meaning
جن لوگوں کو ہم نے کتاب دی اور وہ اسے اس طرح پڑھتے اور اس کی پیروی کرتے ہیں جیسے اس کی پیروی کا حق ہے، وہی اس پر ایمان رکھتے ہیں۔ اور جو اس کا انکار کرے، وہی خسارہ اٹھانے والے ہیں۔
Explanation
True engagement with revelation is more than simply reading words. It includes understanding, respecting, accepting, and following its guidance. The verse connects sincere recitation with genuine faith.
يَٰبَنِيٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ ٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَتِيَ ٱلَّتِيٓ أَنْعَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَأَنِّي فَضَّلْتُكُمْ عَلَى ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
English Meaning
O Children of Israel, remember My favor that I bestowed upon you and that I favored you over the peoples of your time.
Urdu Meaning
اے بنی اسرائیل! میری اس نعمت کو یاد کرو جو میں نے تم پر کی، اور یہ کہ میں نے تمہیں اس زمانے کے لوگوں پر فضیلت عطا کی۔
Explanation
Allah reminds the Children of Israel of the favors He had granted them. Such blessings were a responsibility, not a guarantee of permanent superiority regardless of conduct. Gratitude should lead to obedience.
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ يَوْمًۭا لَّا تَجْزِي نَفْسٌ عَن نَّفْسٍۢ شَيْـًۭٔا وَلَا يُقْبَلُ مِنْهَا عَدْلٌۭ وَلَا تَنفَعُهَا شَفَٰعَةٌۭ وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ
English Meaning
Be mindful of a Day when no soul will be able to benefit another soul in place of its own, no compensation will be accepted from it, intercession will not benefit it except as Allah permits, and they will receive no help.
Urdu Meaning
اور اس دن سے ڈرو جب کوئی شخص کسی دوسرے کے کچھ کام نہ آ سکے گا، نہ اس سے کوئی فدیہ قبول کیا جائے گا، نہ کوئی سفارش اسے فائدہ دے گی، اور نہ انہیں کوئی مدد ملے گی۔
Explanation
The verse warns against relying on ancestry, social status, or worldly connections for salvation. Every person ultimately faces Allah with personal accountability. The Quran repeatedly directs people toward faith and righteous action rather than false security.
وَإِذِ ٱبْتَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِۦمَ رَبُّهُۥ بِكَلِمَٰتٍۢ فَأَتَمَّهُنَّ ۖ قَالَ إِنِّي جَاعِلُكَ لِلنَّاسِ إِمَامًۭا ۖ قَالَ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي ۖ قَالَ لَا يَنَالُ عَهْدِي ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
English Meaning
When Abraham was tested by his Lord with commands and he fulfilled them, Allah said, “I will make you a leader for the people.” Abraham asked about his descendants. Allah replied, “My covenant does not include the wrongdoers.”
Urdu Meaning
اور جب ابراہیم کو ان کے رب نے کچھ احکام کے ذریعے آزمایا اور انہوں نے انہیں پورا کر دیا تو اللہ نے فرمایا: میں تمہیں لوگوں کا پیشوا بنانے والا ہوں۔ انہوں نے عرض کیا: اور میری اولاد میں سے؟ اللہ نے فرمایا: میرا عہد ظالموں کو نہیں پہنچتا۔
Explanation
Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام attained a great position after successfully fulfilling Allah's tests. The verse also establishes that religious leadership and divine covenant are not based merely on ancestry. Righteousness matters.
English Meaning
Remember when We made the House a place of return and security for people, and instructed them to take the standing place of Abraham as a place of Prayer. We commanded Abraham and Ishmael to keep My House pure for those who perform Tawaf, remain there in worship, and bow and prostrate.
Urdu Meaning
اور جب ہم نے اس گھر کو لوگوں کے لیے بار بار لوٹنے کی جگہ اور امن کا مقام بنایا، اور کہا کہ مقامِ ابراہیم کو نماز کی جگہ بناؤ۔ اور ہم نے ابراہیم اور اسماعیل کو حکم دیا کہ میرے گھر کو طواف کرنے والوں، اعتکاف کرنے والوں اور رکوع و سجود کرنے والوں کے لیے پاک رکھو۔
Explanation
This verse highlights the sacred status of the Ka'bah and its connection with Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام and Prophet Ismail عليه السلام. The House is associated with worship, security, Tawaf, Prayer, and remembrance of Allah.
English Meaning
When Abraham prayed, “My Lord, make this a secure city and provide its believing people with fruits,” Allah said that even those who disbelieve would be given temporary worldly enjoyment, after which they would be driven to the punishment of the Fire.
Explanation
Ibrahim عليه السلام prayed for security and provision. Allah explains that worldly provision is not itself proof of righteousness, because disbelievers may also receive worldly blessings. The decisive difference appears in the Hereafter.
وَإِذْ يَرْفَعُ إِبْرَٰهِۦمُ ٱلْقَوَاعِدَ مِنَ ٱلْبَيْتِ وَإِسْمَٰعِيلُ رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّآ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
English Meaning
And remember when Abraham and Ishmael were raising the foundations of the House, saying, “Our Lord, accept this from us. Surely You are the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.”
Urdu Meaning
اور جب ابراہیم اور اسماعیل اس گھر کی بنیادیں اٹھا رہے تھے اور دعا کر رہے تھے: اے ہمارے رب! ہم سے یہ عمل قبول فرما، بے شک تو خوب سننے والا، خوب جاننے والا ہے۔
Explanation
Even while performing a great act of worship, Ibrahim and Ismail عليهما السلام asked Allah for acceptance. This teaches humility: a believer should not become proud of good deeds but should ask Allah to accept them.
رَبَّنَا وَٱجْعَلْنَا مُسْلِمَيْنِ لَكَ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِنَآ أُمَّةًۭ مُّسْلِمَةًۭ لَّكَ وَأَرِنَا مَنَاسِكَنَا وَتُبْ عَلَيْنَآ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلتَّوَّابُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ
English Meaning
“Our Lord, make us submissive to You, and from our descendants raise a community devoted to You. Show us our acts of worship and accept our repentance. Surely You are the One who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful.”
Urdu Meaning
اے ہمارے رب! ہمیں اپنا فرمانبردار بنا اور ہماری اولاد میں سے بھی ایک ایسی امت بنا جو تیری فرمانبردار ہو۔ ہمیں ہماری عبادت کے طریقے دکھا اور ہماری توبہ قبول فرما۔ بے شک تو بہت توبہ قبول کرنے والا، نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔
Explanation
This is a powerful prayer for personal submission, righteous descendants, correct worship, and forgiveness. It shows that prophets themselves sought Allah's guidance and mercy rather than relying upon themselves.
رَبَّنَا وَٱبْعَثْ فِيهِمْ رَسُولًۭا مِّنْهُمْ يَتْلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَٰتِكَ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَٱلْحِكْمَةَ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ
English Meaning
“Our Lord, send among them a messenger from among themselves who will recite Your verses to them, teach them the Scripture and wisdom, and purify them. Surely You are the Almighty, the Wise.”
Urdu Meaning
اے ہمارے رب! ان میں انہی میں سے ایک رسول بھیج جو انہیں تیری آیات سنائے، انہیں کتاب اور حکمت سکھائے اور ان کا تزکیہ کرے۔ بے شک تو غالب، حکمت والا ہے۔
Explanation
Ibrahim and Ismail عليهما السلام prayed for a messenger who would teach revelation and purify the people. The verse describes several dimensions of prophetic guidance: recitation of revelation, teaching, wisdom, and spiritual purification.
وَمَن يَرْغَبُ عَن مِّلَّةِ إِبْرَٰهِۦمَ إِلَّا مَن سَفِهَ نَفْسَهُۥ ۚ وَلَقَدِ ٱصْطَفَيْنَٰهُ فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَإِنَّهُۥ فِي ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ
English Meaning
Who would turn away from the way of Abraham except someone who has acted foolishly against himself? We certainly chose him in this world, and in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous.
Urdu Meaning
اور کون ابراہیم کے طریقے سے منہ موڑے گا سوائے اس کے جس نے اپنے آپ کو نادان بنا لیا ہو؟ اور یقیناً ہم نے اسے دنیا میں منتخب کیا، اور آخرت میں بھی وہ نیک لوگوں میں سے ہوگا۔
Explanation
The “way of Abraham” is connected here with sincere submission to Allah. Ibrahim عليه السلام is presented as an example of pure devotion and righteousness. Turning away from that path is described as a loss to the person himself.
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُۥ رَبُّهُۥٓ أَسْلِمْ ۖ قَالَ أَسْلَمْتُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
English Meaning
When his Lord said to him, “Submit,” he replied, “I have submitted to the Lord of all worlds.”
Urdu Meaning
جب اس کے رب نے اس سے فرمایا: فرمانبردار ہو جاؤ، تو اس نے کہا: میں تمام جہانوں کے رب کے سامنے فرمانبردار ہو گیا۔
Explanation
This short but powerful verse captures the essence of Ibrahim's faith: immediate submission to Allah. Islam, in its fundamental meaning, involves surrendering oneself to the Creator and obeying His guidance.
وَوَصَّىٰ بِهَآ إِبْرَٰهِۦمُ بَنِيهِ وَيَعْقُوبُ يَٰبَنِيَّ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱصْطَفَىٰ لَكُمُ ٱلدِّينَ فَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا وَأَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ
English Meaning
Abraham instructed his sons with this, and Jacob did likewise: “My children, Allah has chosen this religion for you, so do not die except in a state of submission to Him.”
Urdu Meaning
اور ابراہیم نے اپنے بیٹوں کو اسی کی وصیت کی اور یعقوب نے بھی: اے میرے بیٹو! اللہ نے تمہارے لیے یہ دین منتخب کیا ہے، پس تمہیں موت نہ آئے مگر اس حال میں کہ تم اللہ کے فرمانبردار ہو۔
Explanation
The prophets cared deeply about the faith of their descendants. The verse teaches that maintaining faith until death is a lifelong responsibility. A believer should continually ask Allah for steadfastness.
English Meaning
Were you present when death approached Jacob and he asked his sons, “What will you worship after me?” They replied, “We will worship your God and the God of your fathers—Abraham, Ishmael, and Isaac—the One God, and we submit to Him.”
Urdu Meaning
کیا تم اس وقت موجود تھے جب یعقوب کو موت آئی اور انہوں نے اپنے بیٹوں سے پوچھا: میرے بعد تم کس کی عبادت کرو گے؟ انہوں نے کہا: ہم آپ کے معبود اور آپ کے آباؤ اجداد ابراہیم، اسماعیل اور اسحاق کے معبود، ایک ہی معبود کی عبادت کریں گے، اور ہم اسی کے فرمانبردار ہیں۔
Explanation
Jacob عليه السلام's concern at the end of his life was the worship of Allah. His sons affirmed belief in one God. The verse emphasizes that the prophets shared the fundamental message of Tawhid.
تِلْكَ أُمَّةٌۭ قَدْ خَلَتْ ۖ لَهَا مَا كَسَبَتْ وَلَكُم مَّا كَسَبْتُمْ ۖ وَلَا تُسْـَٔلُونَ عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ
English Meaning
That was a community that has passed away. They will have what they earned, and you will have what you earn. You will not be questioned about what they used to do.
Urdu Meaning
وہ ایک امت تھی جو گزر چکی۔ ان کے لیے وہ ہے جو انہوں نے کمایا اور تمہارے لیے وہ ہے جو تم نے کمایا۔ اور تم سے ان کے اعمال کے بارے میں سوال نہیں کیا جائے گا۔
Explanation
This verse prevents people from relying upon the righteousness of their ancestors. The prophets and earlier communities had their own deeds, while later generations are responsible for their own choices.
وَقَالُوا۟ كُونُوا۟ هُودًا أَوْ نَصَٰرَىٰ تَهْتَدُوا۟ ۗ قُلْ بَلْ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَٰهِۦمَ حَنِيفًۭا ۖ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ
English Meaning
They say, “Become Jews or Christians and you will be guided.” Say, “Rather, we follow the way of Abraham, inclining purely toward truth, and he was not among those who associated partners with Allah.”
Urdu Meaning
اور انہوں نے کہا: یہودی یا نصرانی ہو جاؤ، ہدایت پاؤ گے۔ کہہ دو: نہیں، بلکہ ہم ابراہیم کے طریقے پر ہیں جو یکسو تھا، اور وہ مشرکوں میں سے نہ تھا۔
Explanation
The Quran directs believers back to the pure monotheistic faith associated with Ibrahim عليه السلام. The central issue is not ethnic or sectarian identity but sincere worship of Allah alone.
English Meaning
Say, “We believe in Allah, in what has been revealed to us, and in what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the tribes, and in what was given to Moses, Jesus, and the prophets from their Lord. We do not reject any of them, and we submit to Allah.”
Explanation
Islam affirms the original divine revelations and all genuine prophets. Muslims do not believe in some prophets while rejecting others. The verse establishes continuity in the prophetic message while affirming the final revelation given to Muhammad ﷺ.
فَإِنْ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِمِثْلِ مَآ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦ فَقَدِ ٱهْتَدَوا۟ ۖ وَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنَّمَا هُمْ فِي شِقَاقٍۢ ۖ فَسَيَكْفِيكَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ
English Meaning
If they believe in what you believe in, they will have found guidance. But if they turn away, they are only in opposition. Allah will be sufficient for you against them, and He is the All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
Urdu Meaning
پھر اگر وہ بھی اسی طرح ایمان لے آئیں جیسے تم ایمان لائے ہو تو وہ ہدایت پا جائیں گے، اور اگر منہ موڑیں تو وہ مخالفت ہی میں ہیں۔ پس اللہ ان کے مقابلے میں تمہارے لیے کافی ہوگا، اور وہ خوب سننے والا، خوب جاننے والا ہے۔
Explanation
The verse gives a clear standard of guidance while reassuring the believers that opposition cannot overcome Allah's support. The Prophet ﷺ was not required to compromise revelation simply to satisfy those who rejected it.
صِبْغَةَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ مِنَ ٱللَّهِ صِبْغَةًۭ ۖ وَنَحْنُ لَهُۥ عَٰبِدُونَ
English Meaning
This is the way and spiritual identity given by Allah. And who can give a better identity than Allah? We worship Him alone.
Urdu Meaning
یہ اللہ کا رنگ ہے، اور اللہ کے رنگ سے بہتر کس کا رنگ ہو سکتا ہے؟ اور ہم اسی کی عبادت کرنے والے ہیں۔
Explanation
The expression “Allah's color” is understood as the distinctive faith, character, and spiritual identity that Allah gives to His servants. The believer's identity is shaped by submission to Allah rather than by competing religious labels.
قُلْ أَتُحَآجُّونَنَا فِي ٱللَّهِ وَهُوَ رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكُمْ ۖ وَلَنَآ أَعْمَٰلُنَا وَلَكُمْ أَعْمَٰلُكُمْ وَنَحْنُ لَهُۥ مُخْلِصُونَ
English Meaning
Say, “Do you argue with us about Allah when He is our Lord and your Lord? We have our deeds and you have your deeds, and we are sincerely devoted to Him.”
Urdu Meaning
کہہ دو: کیا تم اللہ کے بارے میں ہم سے جھگڑتے ہو، حالانکہ وہ ہمارا بھی رب ہے اور تمہارا بھی رب ہے؟ ہمارے اعمال ہمارے لیے ہیں اور تمہارے اعمال تمہارے لیے، اور ہم اسی کے لیے اخلاص رکھتے ہیں۔
Explanation
Allah is the Lord of all people, but people differ in how they respond to Him. The verse emphasizes sincerity and personal accountability rather than arguments based on group identity.
English Meaning
Or do you claim that Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the tribes were Jews or Christians? Say, “Do you know better, or does Allah?” Who is more unjust than one who conceals a testimony received from Allah? Allah is never unaware of what you do.
Urdu Meaning
یا کیا تم کہتے ہو کہ ابراہیم، اسماعیل، اسحاق، یعقوب اور ان کی اولاد یہودی یا نصرانی تھے؟ کہہ دو: کیا تم زیادہ جانتے ہو یا اللہ؟ اور اس شخص سے بڑھ کر ظالم کون ہے جو اللہ کی طرف سے اپنے پاس موجود گواہی کو چھپائے؟ اور اللہ تمہارے اعمال سے غافل نہیں۔
Explanation
The verse rejects the attempt to impose later religious labels upon earlier prophets. Allah knows the truth about His prophets better than anyone. It also warns against knowingly concealing testimony or truth for the sake of a preferred identity or argument.
