English Meaning
The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a grain that produces seven ears, with one hundred grains in each ear. Allah multiplies the reward for whom He wills, and Allah is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.
Urdu Meaning
جو لوگ اللہ کی راہ میں اپنا مال خرچ کرتے ہیں، ان کی مثال اس دانے کی مانند ہے جس سے سات بالیاں نکلیں اور ہر بالی میں سو دانے ہوں۔ اللہ جس کے لیے چاہتا ہے اجر کو بڑھا دیتا ہے، اور اللہ بڑی وسعت والا، سب کچھ جاننے والا ہے۔
Explanation
This Ayah gives a powerful example of the reward of spending sincerely for Allah. A single grain can produce many more grains, just as sincere charity can bring a greatly multiplied reward. The exact extent of this multiplication is in Allah's control. The verse therefore encourages generosity while reminding believers that Allah knows both the amount given and the sincerity behind it.
الَّذِينَ يُنْفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ لَا يُتْبِعُونَ مَا أَنْفَقُوا مَنًّا وَلَا أَذًى ۙ لَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ
English Meaning
Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah and do not follow their giving with reminders of their generosity or harm to the recipient will have their reward with their Lord. They will have no fear, nor will they grieve.
Urdu Meaning
جو لوگ اللہ کی راہ میں اپنا مال خرچ کرتے ہیں اور پھر اپنے احسان جتلا کر یا تکلیف پہنچا کر اس صدقے کو خراب نہیں کرتے، ان کا اجر ان کے رب کے پاس ہے۔ ان پر نہ کوئی خوف ہوگا اور نہ وہ غمگین ہوں گے۔
Explanation
Charity should not become a means of humiliating the person who receives it. A person may give generously but then destroy the spiritual value of that charity by repeatedly reminding the recipient of what was given or by hurting them. Allah praises those who give and then leave the matter with Him, seeking His reward rather than recognition.
قَوْلٌ مَعْرُوفٌ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِنْ صَدَقَةٍ يَتْبَعُهَا أَذًى ۗ وَاللَّهُ غَنِيٌّ حَلِيمٌ
English Meaning
A kind word and forgiveness are better than charity followed by harm. Allah is Self-Sufficient and Forbearing.
Urdu Meaning
اچھی بات کہنا اور درگزر کرنا اس صدقے سے بہتر ہے جس کے بعد کسی کو تکلیف پہنچائی جائے۔ اللہ بے نیاز اور بہت بردبار ہے۔
Explanation
The verse teaches that the manner in which we treat people matters greatly. If someone cannot give, or if a person gives but then humiliates the recipient, a respectful word and forgiveness may be better. Allah does not need people's wealth; rather, charity is meant to develop sincerity, mercy, and good character.
English Meaning
Believers, do not nullify your charitable giving by reminders and hurtful treatment, like someone who spends only to be seen by people and does not truly believe in Allah and the Last Day. His example is like a smooth stone covered with dust: heavy rain strikes it and leaves it bare. Such people gain nothing from what they earned, and Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.
Explanation
Allah compares insincere charity to dust on a smooth stone. The dust may appear to cover the stone, but a heavy rain removes it completely. Likewise, an act that appears generous outwardly can lose its spiritual benefit when it is driven by showing off, arrogance, or hurtful behavior.
English Meaning
The example of those who spend their wealth seeking Allah's pleasure and strengthening their faith is like a garden on elevated ground that receives abundant rain and produces twice its fruit. Even if heavy rain does not reach it, a light rain is enough. Allah sees all that you do.
Explanation
Sincere charity is compared to a healthy garden in a favorable location. Whether the rain is heavy or light, the garden continues to produce. Similarly, sincere deeds can produce lasting benefit even when the outward circumstances seem small. The essential quality is sincerity for Allah.
English Meaning
Would any of you want to have a garden of palm trees and grapevines with rivers flowing beneath it and every kind of fruit, while growing old with weak children dependent on it, only for a fiery whirlwind to destroy it? In this way Allah makes His signs clear so that you may reflect.
Explanation
This striking example warns against allowing good deeds to be destroyed through insincerity and harmful behavior. The image is of a person who desperately needs the garden but loses it at the moment when he is most vulnerable. The believer should therefore protect good deeds from actions that destroy their value. Quran.com verifies the Arabic text and context of this verse.
English Meaning
Believers, spend from the good things you have earned and from what Allah has brought forth for you from the earth. Do not deliberately choose inferior things to give away when you would not willingly accept them yourselves, except with reluctance. Know that Allah is Self-Sufficient and Praiseworthy.
Urdu Meaning
اے ایمان والو! اپنی پاکیزہ کمائی میں سے اور اس میں سے خرچ کرو جو اللہ نے تمہارے لیے زمین سے پیدا کیا ہے۔ گھٹیا چیز دینے کا ارادہ نہ کرو، جسے تم خود بھی صرف ناگواری کے ساتھ قبول کرو گے۔ جان لو کہ اللہ بے نیاز اور تعریف کے لائق ہے۔
Explanation
Charity should come from what is good and lawful, not from things we ourselves consider unacceptable. The verse teaches a principle of generosity: do not give others what you would dislike receiving yourself. Allah does not need our wealth; the benefit of sincere giving returns to us.
الشَّيْطَانُ يَعِدُكُمُ الْفَقْرَ وَيَأْمُرُكُمْ بِالْفَحْشَاءِ ۖ وَاللَّهُ يَعِدُكُمْ مَغْفِرَةً مِنْهُ وَفَضْلًا ۗ وَاللَّهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ
English Meaning
Satan threatens you with poverty and urges you toward immorality, while Allah promises you forgiveness and bounty. Allah is All-Encompassing and All-Knowing.
Urdu Meaning
شیطان تمہیں محتاجی کا خوف دلاتا ہے اور بے حیائی کی طرف ابھارتا ہے، جبکہ اللہ تم سے اپنی مغفرت اور فضل کا وعدہ کرتا ہے۔ اللہ بڑی وسعت والا اور سب کچھ جاننے والا ہے۔
Explanation
One of the obstacles to generosity is fear: “If I give, I will have less.” The verse teaches believers to recognize this destructive whisper and contrast it with Allah's promise of forgiveness and bounty. This does not mean spending recklessly; rather, it encourages trust in Allah while giving sincerely and responsibly.
يُؤْتِي الْحِكْمَةَ مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۚ وَمَنْ يُؤْتَ الْحِكْمَةَ فَقَدْ أُوتِيَ خَيْرًا كَثِيرًا ۗ وَمَا يَذَّكَّرُ إِلَّا أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ
English Meaning
Allah grants wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever is granted wisdom has certainly been given abundant good. Only people of understanding take heed.
Urdu Meaning
اللہ جسے چاہتا ہے حکمت عطا کرتا ہے، اور جسے حکمت عطا ہو گئی اسے بہت بڑی بھلائی مل گئی۔ نصیحت وہی قبول کرتے ہیں جو عقل و فہم رکھتے ہیں۔
Explanation
Wisdom is described as a great form of good. It enables a person to understand truth, make sound choices, and act appropriately. The verse encourages believers not merely to collect information but to develop understanding and apply what they learn.
وَمَا أَنْفَقْتُمْ مِنْ نَفَقَةٍ أَوْ نَذَرْتُمْ مِنْ نَذْرٍ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يَعْلَمُهُ ۗ وَمَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِنْ أَنْصَارٍ
English Meaning
Whatever you spend and whatever vow you make, Allah certainly knows it. The wrongdoers will have no helpers.
Urdu Meaning
تم جو کچھ بھی خرچ کرتے ہو یا کوئی نذر مانتے ہو، اللہ اسے خوب جانتا ہے۔ اور ظالموں کے لیے کوئی مددگار نہیں ہوگا۔
Explanation
Nothing given or promised for Allah is hidden from Him. The verse establishes accountability: Allah knows our financial actions, intentions, and commitments. It also warns that wrongdoing cannot ultimately be protected by worldly supporters.
إِنْ تُبْدُوا الصَّدَقَاتِ فَنِعِمَّا هِيَ ۖ وَإِنْ تُخْفُوهَا وَتُؤْتُوهَا الْفُقَرَاءَ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ ۚ وَيُكَفِّرُ عَنْكُمْ مِنْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ
English Meaning
If you give charity openly, that is good; but if you conceal it and give it to the poor, it is better for you. Allah will remove some of your sins, and Allah is fully aware of what you do.
Urdu Meaning
اگر تم صدقات ظاہر کرکے دو تو یہ بھی اچھی بات ہے، لیکن اگر انہیں چھپا کر محتاجوں کو دو تو یہ تمہارے لیے زیادہ بہتر ہے۔ اللہ تمہاری کچھ برائیاں دور کر دے گا، اور اللہ تمہارے اعمال سے پوری طرح باخبر ہے۔
Explanation
Open charity can have legitimate benefits, such as encouraging others to give. However, concealed charity can better protect sincerity and the dignity of the recipient. The verse therefore recognizes both while highlighting the spiritual value of discreet giving.
English Meaning
Their guidance is not your responsibility; Allah guides whom He wills. Whatever good you spend is for your own benefit, and you should spend seeking Allah's pleasure. Whatever good you spend will be fully repaid to you, and you will not be wronged.
Explanation
Giving should not depend upon controlling another person's faith or response. A believer's responsibility is to do good sincerely for Allah. Guidance ultimately belongs to Allah, while the reward for sincere generosity belongs to the giver.
English Meaning
Charity is especially for the poor who are restricted in the way of Allah and cannot freely travel in search of livelihood. Someone unaware may think they are self-sufficient because of their dignity and restraint. You can recognize them by their signs; they do not persistently ask people. Whatever good you spend, Allah knows it.
Explanation
This Ayah highlights people whose poverty may be hidden because they maintain dignity and do not repeatedly ask others. It teaches believers to look beyond obvious requests and pay attention to people who may quietly need assistance.
الَّذِينَ يُنْفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ سِرًّا وَعَلَانِيَةً فَلَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ
English Meaning
Those who spend their wealth by night and by day, secretly and openly, will have their reward with their Lord. They will have no fear, nor will they grieve.
Urdu Meaning
جو لوگ رات اور دن، پوشیدہ اور ظاہر طور پر اپنا مال خرچ کرتے ہیں، ان کا اجر ان کے رب کے پاس ہے۔ ان پر نہ خوف ہوگا اور نہ وہ غمگین ہوں گے۔
Explanation
The verse describes continuous generosity in different circumstances. Whether the charity is public or private, at different times of the day or night, what matters is sincere obedience to Allah. The believer's ultimate reward is with Allah.
English Meaning
Those who consume interest will rise as one affected by a severe disturbance, because they claim that trade is just like interest. Yet Allah has permitted trade and forbidden interest. Whoever receives the warning from his Lord and stops may keep what has already passed, and his matter is with Allah. But whoever returns to it after the warning is among the people of the Fire.
Explanation
This is one of the Quran's clearest statements distinguishing lawful trade from riba (interest/usury). The Quran does not treat the two as identical. Trade involves an exchange of goods, services, or assets, while riba is specifically prohibited. The verse also leaves room for repentance: when a person receives the warning and genuinely stops, what has already passed is left to Allah.
يَمْحَقُ اللَّهُ الرِّبَا وَيُرْبِي الصَّدَقَاتِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ أَثِيمٍ
English Meaning
Allah removes the blessing from riba and causes charity to grow. Allah does not love persistent disbelief and sin.
Urdu Meaning
اللہ سود کو بے برکت کر دیتا ہے اور صدقات کو بڑھاتا ہے۔ اور اللہ کسی ناشکرے، گناہ گار شخص کو پسند نہیں کرتا۔
Explanation
The verse contrasts two financial paths. Riba may appear to increase wealth numerically, but Allah states that He causes it to be diminished, while charity is given increase and blessing. The deeper lesson is that true growth is not measured only by immediate financial figures.
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتَوُا الزَّكَاةَ لَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ
English Meaning
Those who believe, do righteous deeds, establish Prayer, and give Zakah will have their reward with their Lord. They will have no fear, nor will they grieve.
Urdu Meaning
بے شک جو لوگ ایمان لائے، نیک اعمال کیے، نماز قائم کی اور زکوٰۃ ادا کی، ان کا اجر ان کے رب کے پاس ہے۔ ان پر نہ خوف ہوگا اور نہ وہ غمگین ہوں گے۔
Explanation
After warning against riba, the Quran presents the qualities of successful believers: faith, righteous action, Prayer, and Zakah. This shows that financial conduct is part of a wider religious life. Worship and financial responsibility are connected rather than separate matters. The Arabic text is verified against Quran.com.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَذَرُوا مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الرِّبَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ
English Meaning
Believers, be mindful of Allah and give up whatever remains of riba, if you are truly believers.
Urdu Meaning
اے ایمان والو! اللہ سے ڈرو اور سود میں سے جو کچھ باقی رہ گیا ہے اسے چھوڑ دو، اگر تم واقعی ایمان والے ہو۔
Explanation
The command is direct: believers are told to leave remaining riba. Taqwa means being conscious of Allah and acting accordingly. The verse connects genuine faith with obedience to Allah's command concerning financial dealings. Quran.com confirms the Arabic and meaning of this verse.
فَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلُوا فَأْذَنُوا بِحَرْبٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ۖ وَإِنْ تُبْتُمْ فَلَكُمْ رُءُوسُ أَمْوَالِكُمْ لَا تَظْلِمُونَ وَلَا تُظْلَمُونَ
English Meaning
If you do not give up riba, then be warned of a war from Allah and His Messenger. But if you repent, you may retain your principal: you neither wrong others nor are you wronged.
Urdu Meaning
اگر تم ایسا نہیں کرو گے تو اللہ اور اس کے رسول کی طرف سے جنگ کے اعلان سے خبردار ہو جاؤ۔ لیکن اگر تم توبہ کر لو تو تمہارے لیے تمہارا اصل سرمایہ ہے؛ نہ تم ظلم کرو اور نہ تم پر ظلم کیا جائے۔
Explanation
The warning in this verse is extremely serious. At the same time, the Quran establishes an important principle of justice: after repentance, the principal amount remains, while the prohibited increase is abandoned. Thus, the command against riba is accompanied by the principle of “neither wronging nor being wronged.”
وَإِنْ كَانَ ذُو عُسْرَةٍ فَنَظِرَةٌ إِلَىٰ مَيْسَرَةٍ ۚ وَأَنْ تَصَدَّقُوا خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
English Meaning
If a debtor is experiencing hardship, give them time until they are able to repay. And if you waive the debt as charity, that is better for you, if you only knew.
Urdu Meaning
اور اگر مقروض تنگ دست ہو تو اسے آسانی حاصل ہونے تک مہلت دو، اور اگر تم قرض ہی معاف کر دو تو یہ تمہارے لیے بہتر ہے، اگر تم جانتے ہو۔
Explanation
Islamic financial justice includes mercy toward someone genuinely unable to repay. The creditor is instructed to allow time until the debtor reaches ease. The verse then encourages an even greater act: forgiving the debt as charity. This creates a principle of compassion alongside financial responsibility. The Arabic text and meaning are verified by Quran.com and the Quranic Arabic Corpus.
