بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
Ayah 241

وَلِلْمُطَلَّقَاتِ مَتَاعٌ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ ۖ حَقًّا عَلَى الْمُتَّقِينَ

English Meaning

Divorced women should receive a reasonable provision according to what is fair. This is a duty upon those who are mindful of Allah.

Urdu Meaning

طلاق یافتہ عورتوں کے لیے معروف طریقے کے مطابق مناسب فائدہ یا سامانِ زندگی دینا لازم ہے، اور یہ پرہیزگاروں پر ایک ذمہ داری ہے۔

Explanation

The verse reinforces the Quranic principle that divorce should be handled with dignity and generosity. Even after a marriage ends, a woman should not simply be abandoned without consideration for her welfare. The exact legal details of such provision are discussed by scholars in connection with the surrounding verses.

Ayah 242

كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ آيَاتِهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

English Meaning

In this way Allah makes His verses clear to you so that you may understand and use reason.

Urdu Meaning

اسی طرح اللہ تمہارے لیے اپنی آیات واضح کرتا ہے تاکہ تم سمجھ بوجھ سے کام لو۔

Explanation

After explaining numerous rulings concerning marriage, divorce, waiting periods, financial responsibilities, and prayer, Allah reminds believers that these commands are meant to be understood and reflected upon. Revelation calls people to both obedience and thoughtful understanding.

Ayah 243

English Meaning

Have you not considered those who left their homes in great numbers, fearing death? Allah said to them, “Die,” and then brought them back to life. Surely Allah is full of bounty toward people, but most people are not grateful.

Urdu Meaning

کیا تم نے ان لوگوں کا حال نہیں دیکھا جو موت کے خوف سے ہزاروں کی تعداد میں اپنے گھروں سے نکل گئے تھے؟ اللہ نے انہیں فرمایا کہ مر جاؤ، پھر انہیں زندہ کر دیا۔ بے شک اللہ لوگوں پر بڑا فضل کرنے والا ہے، لیکن اکثر لوگ شکر ادا نہیں کرتے۔

Explanation

The verse reminds believers that life and death ultimately remain under Allah's control. The exact historical identity of this group is not specified in the Quran. The central lesson is that fear of death cannot escape Allah's decree, and Allah's power over life and resurrection should lead people to gratitude and faith.

Ayah 244

وَقَاتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

English Meaning

Fight in the cause of Allah, and know that Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

Urdu Meaning

اللہ کی راہ میں قتال کرو اور جان لو کہ اللہ سب کچھ سننے والا، سب کچھ جاننے والا ہے۔

Explanation

This command appears within the passage discussing struggle, sacrifice, and the trials faced by earlier communities. It reminds believers that such serious matters are under Allah's knowledge. The command should be understood within the Quran's broader teachings concerning justice, legitimate conflict, limits, and accountability.

Ayah 245

مَّن ذَا الَّذِي يُقْرِضُ اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا فَيُضَاعِفَهُ لَهُ أَضْعَافًا كَثِيرَةً ۚ وَاللَّهُ يَقْبِضُ وَيَبْسُطُ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ

English Meaning

Who will offer Allah a good loan, which He will multiply for them many times over? Allah restricts and expands provision, and to Him you will all return.

Urdu Meaning

کون ہے جو اللہ کو اچھا قرض دے کہ اللہ اسے اس کے لیے کئی گنا بڑھا دے؟ اللہ رزق کو تنگ بھی کرتا ہے اور کشادہ بھی، اور اسی کی طرف تم سب لوٹائے جاؤ گے۔

Explanation

“Lending to Allah” is a figurative Quranic expression for spending sincerely in Allah's cause. Allah does not need anyone's wealth; rather, He promises multiplied reward for sincere generosity. The verse also reminds believers that wealth ultimately remains under Allah's control.

Ayah 246

English Meaning

Have you not considered the leaders of the Children of Israel after Moses? They asked their prophet to appoint a king so that they could fight in Allah's cause. When fighting was prescribed, however, most of them turned away, except a few. Allah knows the wrongdoers.

Explanation

The passage exposes the difference between verbal commitment and actual obedience. The people demanded a leader and promised action, but when the test became real, most withdrew. The Quranic lesson is that sincere faith is demonstrated through steadfastness when obedience becomes difficult.

Ayah 247

English Meaning

Their prophet told them that Allah had appointed Saul (Talut) as their king. They questioned his right to rule because he was not wealthy. The prophet explained that Allah had chosen him and given him greater knowledge and physical strength. Allah grants authority to whom He wills, and He is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.

Explanation

The people initially judged leadership by wealth and social status. Allah's chosen leader, however, possessed qualities more relevant to leadership: knowledge and strength. The verse teaches that material wealth alone does not establish a person's worth or fitness to lead.

Ayah 248

English Meaning

Their prophet told them that the sign of Talut's kingship would be the return of the Ark, containing reassurance from their Lord and remnants of what the families of Moses and Aaron had left behind, carried by the angels. In this was a sign for them if they truly believed.

Urdu Meaning

ان کے نبی نے کہا کہ طالوت کی بادشاہی کی نشانی یہ ہے کہ تمہارے پاس تابوت آئے گا جس میں تمہارے رب کی طرف سے سکون اور موسیٰ و ہارون کے خاندان کی چھوڑی ہوئی کچھ باقیات ہوں گی، اور فرشتے اسے اٹھائے ہوئے ہوں گے۔ اس میں تمہارے لیے نشانی ہے اگر تم ایمان رکھتے ہو۔

Explanation

The Ark served as a divine sign confirming Talut's appointment. The Quran describes its contents and the manner of its arrival as a sign from Allah, strengthening the believers before the coming trial.

Ayah 249

English Meaning

When Talut marched with the army, he told them that Allah would test them with a river. Most drank from it despite the command, while only a few obeyed. After crossing, some felt too weak to face Goliath and his army, but those certain of meeting Allah reminded them that small groups have overcome larger forces by Allah's permission. Allah is with the steadfast.

Explanation

The river became a test of discipline. The challenge was not merely physical; it measured obedience and self-control. The verse also teaches that numerical strength does not guarantee victory. Faith, patience, obedience, and Allah's permission are decisive.

Ayah 250

وَلَمَّا بَرَزُوا لِجَالُوتَ وَجُنُودِهِ قَالُوا رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ

English Meaning

When they faced Goliath and his army, they prayed: “Our Lord, pour patience upon us, make our feet firm, and grant us victory over the disbelieving people.”

Urdu Meaning

جب وہ جالوت اور اس کے لشکر کے مقابلے میں آئے تو انہوں نے دعا کی: اے ہمارے رب! ہم پر صبر نازل فرما، ہمارے قدم جما دے اور کافروں کے مقابلے میں ہماری مدد فرما۔

Explanation

Their first response to a frightening situation was supplication to Allah. They asked for patience, firmness, and victory rather than relying solely on their own strength. This teaches believers to combine effort with sincere dependence upon Allah.

Ayah 251

English Meaning

They defeated the enemy by Allah's permission, and David killed Goliath. Allah then gave David authority and wisdom and taught him what He willed. If Allah did not restrain some people through others, the earth would become corrupted, but Allah is full of bounty toward all worlds.

Explanation

David (Dawud) emerges from this struggle and is granted authority and wisdom. The verse also presents a broader principle: Allah may restrain wrongdoing through opposing forces so that widespread corruption does not dominate the earth.

Ayah 252

تِلْكَ آيَاتُ اللَّهِ نَتْلُوهَا عَلَيْكَ بِالْحَقِّ ۚ وَإِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ

English Meaning

These are Allah's revelations that We recite to you in truth. Surely, you are indeed one of the messengers.

Urdu Meaning

یہ اللہ کی آیات ہیں جو ہم تمہیں حق کے ساتھ سناتے ہیں، اور بے شک تم رسولوں میں سے ہو۔

Explanation

After narrating this history, Allah confirms that these accounts are revealed truth and addresses Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as one of His messengers. The historical account therefore carries both information and spiritual instruction.

Ayah 253

English Meaning

Those messengers were given different ranks by Allah. Some were spoken to directly by Allah, and some were raised in degree. Jesus son of Mary was given clear signs and strengthened with the Holy Spirit. After the messengers came, people differed despite receiving clear proofs; some believed and some disbelieved. Had Allah willed, they would not have fought one another, but Allah does what He wills.

Explanation

The verse affirms the honour of Allah's messengers while recognizing that Allah granted them different distinctions. It also describes how people later divided despite receiving clear evidence. The verse does not blame divine revelation for conflict; rather, it points to human disagreement and choices.

Ayah 254

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنفِقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَ يَوْمٌ لَّا بَيْعٌ فِيهِ وَلَا خُلَّةٌ وَلَا شَفَاعَةٌ ۗ وَالْكَافِرُونَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ

English Meaning

O believers, spend from what We have provided for you before a Day comes when there will be no buying or selling, no close friendship, and no intercession except as Allah permits.

Urdu Meaning

اے ایمان والو! جو رزق ہم نے تمہیں دیا ہے اس میں سے خرچ کرو اس دن کے آنے سے پہلے جس میں نہ خرید و فروخت ہوگی، نہ دوستی کام آئے گی اور نہ شفاعت، اور کافر ہی ظالم ہیں۔

Explanation

Believers are urged to spend their wealth before death and the Day of Judgment. Worldly wealth cannot simply be transferred into the Hereafter. The verse therefore encourages generosity while opportunity still exists.

Ayah 255

English Meaning

Allah—there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. Everything in the heavens and earth belongs to Him. No one can intercede with Him except by His permission. He knows what is before and behind His creation, while they know only what He allows them to know. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and preserving them does not burden Him. He is the Most High, the Most Great.

Explanation

Ayat al-Kursi is one of the Quran's most comprehensive descriptions of Allah's absolute authority, life, knowledge, ownership, and power. It establishes that Allah neither becomes tired nor sleeps, possesses the heavens and earth, knows all things, and requires no partner or independent intercessor. The verse is therefore fundamentally a declaration of Tawhid and Allah's absolute sovereignty.

Ayah 256

English Meaning

There is no compulsion in religion. The right path has become distinct from error. Whoever rejects false objects of worship and believes in Allah has grasped the strongest handhold, which cannot break. Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

Urdu Meaning

دین میں کوئی زبردستی نہیں۔ ہدایت گمراہی سے واضح ہو چکی ہے۔ جو شخص طاغوت کا انکار کرے اور اللہ پر ایمان لائے اس نے ایک مضبوط سہارا تھام لیا جو کبھی ٹوٹنے والا نہیں۔ اور اللہ سب کچھ سننے والا، سب کچھ جاننے والا ہے۔

Explanation

The verse states that faith cannot be meaningfully produced through coercion. Truth and falsehood have been made distinguishable, and a person is called to consciously reject falsehood and believe in Allah. The “strongest handhold” expresses firm attachment to genuine faith and Tawhid.

Ayah 257

English Meaning

Allah is the protecting ally of those who believe; He brings them from darkness into light. Those who disbelieve have false authorities as their allies, who lead them from light into darkness. They are companions of the Fire, remaining there.

Urdu Meaning

اللہ ایمان والوں کا ولی ہے، وہ انہیں اندھیروں سے نکال کر روشنی کی طرف لے جاتا ہے۔ اور کافروں کے دوست طاغوت ہیں جو انہیں روشنی سے نکال کر اندھیروں کی طرف لے جاتے ہیں۔ یہی لوگ جہنم والے ہیں اور اس میں ہمیشہ رہیں گے۔

Explanation

The verse contrasts two directions: Allah's guidance leads believers from spiritual darkness toward light, while false authorities lead those who reject faith toward deeper darkness. The imagery emphasizes that guidance is not merely information; it transforms a person's direction and allegiance.

Ayah 258

English Meaning

Have you considered the one who argued with Abraham about his Lord because Allah had given him authority? Abraham said, “My Lord gives life and causes death.” He replied, “I also give life and cause death.” Abraham then said, “Allah brings the sun from the east, so bring it from the west.” The disbeliever was confounded, and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.

Explanation

Abraham (Ibrahim) challenged the ruler's claim by moving the discussion from an ambiguous claim about life and death to an undeniable sign of Allah's control over creation. The ruler could not answer Abraham's final challenge. The verse demonstrates the use of clear reasoning against arrogant rejection of truth.

Ayah 259

English Meaning

Or consider the one who passed by a ruined town and wondered how Allah could bring it back to life after its destruction. Allah caused him to remain dead for a hundred years and then raised him. He asked how long he had remained, and he was told a hundred years. His food and drink had remained unchanged, while his donkey's remains were shown to him as Allah reconstructed them and covered the bones with flesh. When the reality became clear to him, he declared that he now knew Allah is capable of everything.

Explanation

The verse presents another powerful sign concerning resurrection. The identity of the individual is not explicitly named in the Quran, so it is better not to state a name as certain. The central lesson is Allah's complete power to restore life, even when human beings cannot imagine how resurrection could occur.

Ayah 260

English Meaning

When Abraham said, “My Lord, show me how You give life to the dead,” Allah asked, “Do you not believe?” Abraham replied, “Yes, but I ask so that my heart may be reassured.” Allah instructed him to take four birds, prepare them, place portions of them on different hills, and then call them; they would come to him swiftly. Allah is Almighty, All-Wise.

Explanation

Abraham's request was not presented as disbelief. He explicitly affirmed his belief and asked for a demonstration that would bring greater reassurance to his heart. Allah then demonstrated His power over resurrection. The verse concludes by joining might and wisdom: Allah is fully capable of bringing the dead back to life, and everything He does is governed by perfect wisdom.
