بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
Ayah 201

وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَقُولُ رَبَّنَآ ءَاتِنَا فِي ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي ٱلْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ

English Meaning

Among them are those who say, “Our Lord, give us good in this world, good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”

Urdu Meaning

اور ان میں سے کچھ لوگ کہتے ہیں: اے ہمارے رب! ہمیں دنیا میں بھی بھلائی عطا فرما، آخرت میں بھی بھلائی عطا فرما اور ہمیں آگ کے عذاب سے بچا۔

Explanation

This is one of the Quran's most comprehensive supplications. It teaches believers to seek balanced goodness: beneficial things in this life, success in the Hereafter, and protection from punishment. The prayer does not encourage abandoning worldly needs; rather, it places worldly and eternal good together under Allah's guidance.

Ayah 202

أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا كَسَبُوا وَٱللَّهُ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ

English Meaning

Those will have a share of what they have earned, and Allah is swift in reckoning.

Urdu Meaning

یہی لوگ ہیں جن کے لیے ان کے اعمال کی کمائی میں حصہ ہے، اور اللہ جلد حساب لینے والا ہے۔

Explanation

The previous verse described people who ask Allah for good in both worlds. This verse emphasizes that people receive according to what they earn through their actions. Faith, sincere supplication and righteous deeds are therefore connected with accountability before Allah.

Ayah 203

English Meaning

Remember Allah during the appointed days. Whoever leaves after two days has no sin, and whoever stays longer has no sin, provided they remain mindful of Allah. Be mindful of Allah and know that you will all be gathered before Him.

Urdu Meaning

اور گنتی کے چند دنوں میں اللہ کو یاد کرو۔ پھر جو شخص دو دن میں جلدی واپس ہو جائے اس پر کوئی گناہ نہیں، اور جو مزید ٹھہرے اس پر بھی کوئی گناہ نہیں، بشرطیکہ وہ تقویٰ اختیار کرے۔ اللہ سے ڈرو اور جان لو کہ تم سب اسی کے پاس جمع کیے جاؤ گے۔

Explanation

The verse continues the guidance concerning the rites of Hajj and remembrance of Allah. It gives pilgrims flexibility regarding the timing of departure while emphasizing that the central requirement is taqwa. The verse ends by reminding people that the pilgrimage itself points toward the greater reality of resurrection and gathering before Allah.

Ayah 204

وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يُعْجِبُكَ قَوْلُهُۥ فِي ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَيُشْهِدُ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ مَا فِي قَلْبِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَلَدُّ ٱلْخِصَامِ

English Meaning

Among people is one whose speech impresses you in worldly life and who calls Allah as witness to what is in his heart, yet he is the fiercest of opponents.

Urdu Meaning

اور لوگوں میں کوئی ایسا ہے جس کی بات دنیا کی زندگی میں تمہیں اچھی لگتی ہے اور وہ اپنے دل کی بات پر اللہ کو گواہ بناتا ہے، حالانکہ وہ سب سے سخت جھگڑالو ہوتا ہے۔

Explanation

This verse warns against judging a person's character merely by attractive speech or impressive claims. Someone may use religious language and even invoke Allah while concealing harmful intentions. True character is demonstrated through conduct, not merely persuasive words.

Ayah 205

وَإِذَا تَوَلَّىٰ سَعَىٰ فِي ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيُفْسِدَ فِيهَا وَيُهْلِكَ ٱلْحَرْثَ وَٱلنَّسْلَ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْفَسَادَ

English Meaning

When he turns away, he strives throughout the land to spread corruption and destroy crops and offspring. Allah does not love corruption.

Urdu Meaning

اور جب وہ واپس جاتا ہے تو زمین میں فساد پھیلانے اور کھیتی اور نسل کو تباہ کرنے کی کوشش کرتا ہے۔ اور اللہ فساد کو پسند نہیں کرتا۔

Explanation

The previous verse described deceptive speech; this verse reveals the destructive behavior behind it. Corruption can affect people, livelihoods, agriculture and future generations. The Quran makes clear that causing widespread harm is contrary to what Allah loves.

Ayah 206

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُ ٱتَّقِ ٱللَّهَ أَخَذَتْهُ ٱلْعِزَّةُ بِٱلْإِثْمِ ۚ فَحَسْبُهُۥ جَهَنَّمُ ۖ وَلَبِئْسَ ٱلْمِهَادُ

English Meaning

When he is told, “Be mindful of Allah,” pride in sin takes hold of him. Hell is sufficient for him, and what an evil resting place.

Urdu Meaning

اور جب اس سے کہا جاتا ہے کہ اللہ سے ڈرو تو گناہ پر اس کی خود پسندی اسے مزید پکڑ لیتی ہے۔ اس کے لیے جہنم کافی ہے، اور وہ بہت برا ٹھکانا ہے۔

Explanation

The problem is not simply committing a mistake; it is becoming arrogant when reminded of Allah and refusing correction. A believer may fall into error but should respond to sincere advice with humility and repentance rather than pride.

Ayah 207

وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَشْرِي نَفْسَهُ ٱبْتِغَآءَ مَرْضَاتِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ رَءُوفٌۢ بِٱلْعِبَادِ

English Meaning

Among people is one who gives himself in pursuit of Allah's pleasure. Allah is Most Kind to His servants.

Urdu Meaning

اور لوگوں میں کوئی ایسا بھی ہے جو اللہ کی رضا حاصل کرنے کے لیے اپنی جان تک لگا دیتا ہے۔ اور اللہ اپنے بندوں پر بہت مہربان ہے۔

Explanation

This verse presents the opposite character to the person described in 2:204–206. Instead of using words for appearance while causing harm, this person sincerely dedicates himself to seeking Allah's pleasure. The verse highlights sincere sacrifice and devotion.

Ayah 208

يَا أَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا ٱدْخُلُوا فِي ٱلسِّلْمِ كَافَّةً وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا خُطُوَاتِ ٱلشَّيْطَانِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ

English Meaning

O believers, enter into Islam completely and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Surely he is your clear enemy.

Urdu Meaning

اے ایمان والو! اسلام میں پورے کے پورے داخل ہو جاؤ اور شیطان کے قدموں کی پیروی نہ کرو۔ بے شک وہ تمہارا کھلا دشمن ہے۔

Explanation

Believers are instructed to embrace Islam as a complete way of life rather than selecting only the teachings that suit personal desires. The warning against Satan's footsteps also indicates that deviation can happen gradually through a series of choices.

Ayah 209

فَإِن زَلَلْتُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْكُمُ ٱلْبَيِّنَاتُ فَٱعْلَمُوٓا أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ

English Meaning

But if you slip after clear proofs have come to you, then know that Allah is Mighty and Wise.

Urdu Meaning

پھر اگر واضح دلائل آ جانے کے بعد بھی تم پھسل جاؤ تو جان لو کہ اللہ زبردست، حکمت والا ہے۔

Explanation

The verse warns believers not to abandon clear guidance after it has become evident. Allah's might reminds people that revelation cannot simply be ignored without consequence, while His wisdom reminds them that His commands are based on perfect knowledge.

Ayah 210

هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِي ظُلَلٍ مِّنَ ٱلْغَمَامِ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَقُضِيَ ٱلْأَمْرُ ۚ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ ٱلْأُمُورُ

English Meaning

Are they waiting for Allah to come to them in canopies of clouds, with the angels, and for the matter to be decided? And to Allah all matters are returned.

Urdu Meaning

کیا وہ اسی انتظار میں ہیں کہ اللہ بادلوں کے سایہ بانوں میں ان کے پاس آئے اور فرشتے بھی، اور معاملہ فیصلہ کر دیا جائے؟ اور تمام معاملات اللہ ہی کی طرف لوٹائے جاتے ہیں۔

Explanation

The verse warns against delaying faith until the final reality becomes unmistakable. The exact manner of the divine matters mentioned here belongs to the unseen and should not be explained through unsupported speculation. The conclusion emphasizes Allah's ultimate authority over every matter.

Ayah 211

سَلْ بَنِيٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ كَمْ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍۭ بَيِّنَةٍۢ ۗ وَمَن يُبَدِّلْ نِعْمَةَ ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جَآءَتْهُ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ

English Meaning

Ask the Children of Israel how many clear signs We gave them. Whoever exchanges Allah's blessing after it has come to him should know that Allah is severe in punishment.

Urdu Meaning

بنی اسرائیل سے پوچھو کہ ہم نے انہیں کتنی واضح نشانیاں عطا کیں۔ اور جو شخص اللہ کی نعمت کو اپنے پاس آنے کے بعد بدل دے تو بے شک اللہ سخت سزا دینے والا ہے۔

Explanation

The verse points to the many signs and favors given to the Children of Israel. The broader lesson is not limited to one community: receiving clear guidance and blessings creates a responsibility to respond with gratitude rather than rejection.

Ayah 212

English Meaning

The worldly life has been made attractive to those who disbelieve, and they ridicule those who believe. But those who are mindful of Allah will be above them on the Day of Resurrection. Allah provides for whom He wills without limit.

Urdu Meaning

کافروں کے لیے دنیا کی زندگی خوشنما بنا دی گئی ہے اور وہ ایمان والوں کا مذاق اڑاتے ہیں، لیکن قیامت کے دن متقی لوگ ان سے بلند ہوں گے۔ اور اللہ جسے چاہتا ہے بے حساب رزق دیتا ہے۔

Explanation

Worldly status can create the illusion that material success is the ultimate measure of a person's worth. The verse reverses that perspective by pointing to the Hereafter, where taqwa rather than worldly appearance determines true success.

Ayah 213

English Meaning

Humanity was once one community, then Allah sent prophets as bringers of good news and warnings and revealed the Scripture with truth to judge between people concerning what they differed over. Those who received the Scripture differed after clear proofs came to them, out of rivalry among themselves. Allah guided the believers to the truth regarding their disputes by His permission, and Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path.

Explanation

This verse gives a broad picture of revelation and prophethood. Prophets came with both hope and warning, while revelation provided guidance concerning disputed matters. It also identifies envy, rivalry and transgression as causes of religious division after clear evidence had arrived.

Ayah 214

English Meaning

Do you think you will enter Paradise without experiencing trials like those who came before you? They were afflicted with hardship and suffering and were shaken until the Messenger and those who believed with him said, “When will Allah's help come?” Surely, Allah's help is near.

Explanation

Faith does not mean a life completely free from hardship. Earlier believers faced severe trials, yet they remained connected to Allah. The verse gives hope without denying difficulty: Allah's help is near, even when believers experience moments of extreme pressure.

Ayah 215

English Meaning

They ask you what they should spend. Say: whatever good wealth you spend should be for parents, relatives, orphans, the needy and travelers. Whatever good you do, Allah certainly knows it.

Urdu Meaning

وہ آپ سے پوچھتے ہیں کہ کیا خرچ کریں۔ کہہ دیجیے کہ جو بھی بھلائی کی چیز تم خرچ کرو وہ والدین، رشتہ داروں، یتیموں، محتاجوں اور مسافروں کے لیے ہو۔ اور تم جو بھی نیکی کرو بے شک اللہ اسے جانتا ہے۔

Explanation

The verse gives priority to several groups who may have legitimate needs: parents, relatives, orphans, the needy and travelers. Charity is therefore not merely about giving money generally; it should respond thoughtfully to genuine human needs.

Ayah 216

English Meaning

Fighting has been prescribed for you, although it is disliked by you. Perhaps you dislike something while it is good for you, and perhaps you love something while it is harmful for you. Allah knows, while you do not know.

Urdu Meaning

تم پر قتال فرض کیا گیا ہے حالانکہ وہ تمہیں ناگوار ہے۔ ممکن ہے تم کسی چیز کو ناپسند کرو حالانکہ وہ تمہارے لیے بہتر ہو، اور ممکن ہے تم کسی چیز کو پسند کرو حالانکہ وہ تمہارے لیے نقصان دہ ہو۔ اللہ جانتا ہے اور تم نہیں جانتے۔

Explanation

The verse teaches a broader principle about human judgment: people do not always know what ultimately benefits or harms them. In its immediate context, it concerns fighting that had been prescribed. It should be understood alongside the surrounding verses, which establish limits concerning aggression and conflict.

Ayah 217

English Meaning

They ask you about fighting during the sacred month. Say: fighting in it is a grave matter. But preventing people from Allah's way, disbelief in Him, preventing access to the Sacred Mosque and expelling its people from it are greater in Allah's sight. Persecution is greater than killing. They will continue fighting you until they turn you away from your religion if they can. Whoever among you abandons his religion and dies as a disbeliever—such people's deeds become worthless in this world and the Hereafter, and they are companions of the Fire, remaining there.

Explanation

This verse addresses the sacred months within the context of an ongoing conflict. It acknowledges that fighting during a sacred month is serious, while also placing it alongside persecution, expulsion and obstruction of worship. The verse is part of a specific historical conflict context and should be read together with 2:190–194 rather than isolated as a general command.

Ayah 218

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا وَٱلَّذِينَ هَاجَرُوا وَجَٰهَدُوا فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أُولَٰٓئِكَ يَرْجُونَ رَحْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

English Meaning

Indeed, those who believe, migrate and strive in Allah's cause are those who hope for Allah's mercy. Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Urdu Meaning

بے شک جو لوگ ایمان لائے، ہجرت کی اور اللہ کی راہ میں جدوجہد کی، وہ اللہ کی رحمت کے امیدوار ہیں۔ اور اللہ بہت بخشنے والا، نہایت رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

Explanation

The verse describes believers who endured sacrifice for their faith and placed their trust in Allah. Their hope is not based merely on their own deeds; it is directed toward Allah's mercy, which is repeatedly emphasized in the Quran.

Ayah 219

English Meaning

They ask you about intoxicants and gambling. Say: there is great sin in both, as well as some benefits for people, but their sin is greater than their benefit. They also ask what they should spend. Say: what is beyond your needs. Thus Allah makes the revelations clear to you so that you may reflect.

Explanation

This verse acknowledges that intoxicants and gambling may have perceived or limited worldly benefits, but establishes that their harms and sins outweigh those benefits. It is important to note that this is part of the Quranic progression concerning alcohol; the later explicit prohibition appears in 5:90–91. The verse also encourages thoughtful reflection rather than ignoring consequences.

Ayah 220

English Meaning

Regarding this world and the Hereafter. They ask you about orphans. Say: improving their condition is best. If you live and manage affairs together with them, they are your brothers. Allah knows the one who causes corruption from the one who seeks improvement. If Allah had willed, He could have placed you in difficulty. Surely Allah is Mighty and Wise.

Explanation

This verse addresses the proper treatment of orphans and their property. The objective is islah—their welfare and improvement. Those responsible for orphans must not exploit them, while legitimate shared living and management of affairs are permitted when done honestly. Allah knows whether a person's intention and actions are genuinely protective or corrupt.
